Samsung LN40A650A letters bleeding upwards

Hi everyone, I am hoping someone can shed some light on this problem. I have a friend that said he will give me this lcd tv if i want it or its going to the trash. He says its displays fine but when words are going across the bottom of the screen like we see on some news and sports channels the letters will bleed upwards with lines going up the screen but only when words are going across the screen. He says the boys from geek squad diagnosed it as the screen is shot. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Sounds like bad panel, but it is often fixable. However, the symptoms you describe typically only affect 46" and 52" Samsung TVs, I have not heard of it with the 40" models.

How are these often fixable without replacing the panel(screen)?

80-90% of the time it's fixable.
