Had a computer come waltzing through the door today. Completely dead... won't even blip when you plug it in. Crack open the proprietary HP power supply and find it full of bad caps. 6 bad, 2 more that aren't visibly bad, but are the same brand as the bad ones.
Not sure if it's worth attempting a recap. New units are hard to find, and almost $80, so I'll probably attempt it, if nothing else than to try to save the customer some money. This little slimline pavilion has been in my shop no less than 3 times, and all for different problems. Built like shite, these things.
Although, now that I think of it, the onboard NIC died a few months ago... but that was probably because of the failing PSU. I didn't check the PSU caps because it was working fine otherwise, and it's about a 30 minute ordeal to get the computer apart to the point where you can get the PSU out.
Anyway... I can't even test if the board is still good, because they used a Mini ATX connector for the motherboard. This PSU has only three connections. Two are SATA power connectors, and one is the Mini ATX. Talk about no expandability!
