Heathkit SP-2718 Tri-Power Supplies?

Badcap Brethren and Sistren:
--I just bought two of these from a yard sale for $50 (see picture. They appear to both work just fine. I know I still need to get a modern constant current power supply, but in the meanwhile I was wondering if any one has used one of the oldstyle PSs and could discuss their usage vs a modern CCPS. Sorry to be such a dummy, but I hate sudden loud noises and smoke.

That's a variable voltage PS, not a constant current PS.

Dear Fzabkar:
--Yes, that much I understand. Hence the question. I had in mind perhaps using these to check some old junk capacitors for leakage by applying the rated max voltage and then switching over to the current read out, but I have never done this before and have no idea if it is practical. Of course I will not be able to test above 90V, but this experiment is just for my own edification. I will probably put the cap under test in a glass bottle just in case my hand slips. By the way, thanks for the manual, you saved me some money there.
