    HP Spectre 13 x360 - ae000nu DA0X33MBAF0 REV.F No Power

    Hello,

I have the laptop mentioned in the title which does not power on. Unfortunately schematics are not available or at least I was not able to find any.
First I started with measurements of all MosFETS, filters/coils and random capacitors. I managed identified shorted caps nearby the IC TPS65988CE. It was on PP_HV1, PP_HV2 and more lines nearby so after thermal camera observation I saw that the actual IC was getting hot when plugged into 5V DC. It was draining ~360mA. Though if I plug the original adapter it was not getting hot but input voltage was dropping to 0V. I suppose somehow it switch off the power supply in case of short detection.
Anyway I removed the IC and the short was gone. Ordered a new one and soldered it. I managed to switch on the laptop but it was power only from the remaining battery capacity. After the battery has drained I am not able to switch it on again.
When the original power adapter is plugged on this time the voltage stays at 5V. The battery does not charge, the led indicator also confirms. I think it does not negotiate with the TPS65988CE as the voltage does not change. Could this be caused by the fact the the IC has not being configured as it is brand new?

I would be glad if you could share any ideas where to look at or point me at some direction.

    Best regards!

hello this integrated TPS does not need configuration, if it has been soldered well, it must work. chances are you have a short after, maybe on the VIN line, can you post detailed pics of the mainboard?

      Hi declassified-pro,

Thanks for the fast reply. I attached few photos from the motherboard. I think the size have been reduced once imported so let me know if you need higher resolution ones or you need specific details. Meanwhile I will check if I can find anything suspicious.

Does anybody know what is this IC so I can find it's data sheet.

Can you share where this IC can be found on the logic board? Perhaps post another pic but zoomed out.

It is just below the coil and on the right of the metal plate covering the ram. I am suspecting it of short to ground as it gets hot together with the 2.2res on the bottom left corner/considering the image from previous comment/ when injecting voltage to PP_HV lines on TPS65988. Also the battery connector is visible at the bottom right.

I found this from the quanta X31 schematics. Mine is quanta X33 for which the schematics is not available yet. On pin number 9 I see the same configuration: 2R2 with cap. Pin 10 also match but some of the others don't. Anyway I made some measurements with removed PR229 on both sides of it.
I think definitely the 1740VCC is short to ground and considering the thermal imaging it is the 5833 chip, not the cap PC239. But isn't the 5VS5 line resistance too low. Where is this voltage generated from? Isn't it used on the TPS65982D /X31 schematic/ and in my case the TPS65988CE PP_CABLE?
