HP ZBook Studio G5 Regular charger problem.

BOARD : DA0XW1MBA1 REV 1

It charges good with PD and usb C

On regular charger it shows orange light and will start the computer
But nothing gets to battery.

I just inspected the board on top (bottom ) and did not see any damage.

Do these boards have some switching controll within charger ic? or how does it work? Cause im thinkin either charging ic or fet that it controlls.

Any 1 had this problem?

Link the schematic if on this forum.

Yes, the charger ic will accept the power from the external adapter and then enable it disable the battery mosfet.

Check and post the voltage on each pin of the battery connector. The battery pack should have I2C / smbus pins. Need to confirm they are not stuck.

Did not find the schematic.

Will take it apart monday i think.
So just as i expected charger ic will choose source for bat.

Do you have self test code on capslock/numlock?

Also if you have images of board - send it here


When this issue happens?

Check if PSU is working correctly. if its 15 inch, then it should be 150W. If ac mosfets are open and can laptop can work without battery?


What is AIDA64 PowerManagment tab says about battery when plug in charger? which state, how many amps?

Thx Ed - Yes PSU is ok (even shows charging in BatMon - but at 0.0mW) 160W iirc.

Didnt check if it works w/o battery yet. TBH i just looked inside.

Thx for the idea to test w/o battery - it was dead.
Had to rip whole board out and while measuring 19v mosfets i scratching my head why there is lower voltage on gates 0.5v lower than charger was giving (NPN - so open high) i notices small smear.

We have small service so mostly we get hopless cases and tofindsmall liquid damage and just cleanup + resolder junk aroundwas fun
