    Hp Zbook 17 G4 (+5VS short) CPW70 LA-E171P

Hey there! After some troubleshooting I have found that U14, which is marks as BC0A, but actually TPS22965DSGR_SON8_2X2, is getting hot and blinking from hot to cold. Some protection scenario

The problem is simple. After passing switch, there is a short somewhere. It could be a charging controller, it could be a lot of different ICs which requires +5vs or one faulty component.

Recently I watched a lot of repair by northbridgefix at YouTube, and most of repairs were made without voltage injection. I am afraid to inject voltage as my 0.8 v power supply is broken and I do have a 1.3v only for injection. I remember that the best option is 0.9-1.0v for injections.

Maybe there is the other way to fix without burning components?

U14 looks clean and Normal, so I think that problem is not there, also ic shutting down after few second and looping that again... on of..

    Thanks for advices!

+5VDS to +5VS Transfer (TPS22965) is activated by PCH signal "SLP_S3"

    Running on +5VS:

    o-HDA_SYNC Isolation Circuit
    o-A lot of capacitors
o-Caps near ODD and HDD connectors
    o-A lot of LDOs
    o-sound codec controller
    o-usb power?
    o-DP to VGA convertor?
    o-SD controller
    o-Battery charger BQ24

Meter in resistance mode (2k scale is ok). Remove all power / no battery.

Measure & post the resistance to ground on the Vout rail.

      What is the reading ?

        Thanks for quick response!

Finally found few capacitors which were dead. Also somehow the soundcard ic was shorted (part of it). Also the capacitor close to charger ic was dead. So after desoldering 6-7 capacitors and soundcodec, the short was gone and laptop even posted. But that's shutting down after 20-30 seconds. The pch is extremely hot, about 70-85c or more. I think that something at gpio of pch is faulty. I think that one of LDOs is also dead. I am not sure but will measure voltage on nearby ldos

Good news. That repair was done without voltage injection. Yeah that's a waste of time and a lot components was desoldered and putted back. But I think that this is the safest way

Sound codec is fine. VREG capacitor was dead. Actually there was not a short, but VREG dead capacitor. multimeter cant measure capacitence, but at ohm mode it can be charged to infinity. If charge it by 1.25 V it shows 10-45 ohms short

Also a partial short detected at 257, 259 pins of Ram, that comes from PL44 coil (2D5V_S3 - VPP)

All SC22U6D3V5MX caps are dead... I even dont imagine what was done with this laptop

            !!!!

Thunderbolt JHL6540 is extreamelly HOT. No short detected, not working

Thunderbolt JHL6540 is working. Firmware was corrupted

The last to solve is BIOS, which is also corrupted. ME region is corrupted
