    Asus TP412UA charging but DEAD

    Hi friends from Badcaps!!!
May I request your advice for the repair of this ASUS TP412UA Rev.3. motherboard. It is a 2,5 years old laptop, a nice Vivobook 14 inches that has felt several times and has stopped suddenly to work. My brother has sent it to Asus Service who has made an invoice of 800 euros to change the motherboard....
The original charger may be responsible for the breakdown as it gives its 19V from time to time and then 0v.... When plugged in a working charger the 19V charges the battery with the charging led lit on and a good 12,2v battery voltage....
BUT, this laptop does not power up. When the power button is pressed on, there is no led, no fan spin, nothing at all.... The power button gets its 3,3v which drops to 0 at the time of the pression on it. When the battery is pluged in the only voltage on the MB is the 12v. When the charger is pluged in, there is 3,3v , 5v, 12v on the coils but on voltage on the coils surrounding the cpu. The BIOS Chip is a Winbond 25Q64JVSIQ with 3,3v on 6 of its 8 pins. The SIO is an ITE IT8987E that I have changed. Before its exchange, there was not the 5v on the fan rail neither feeding the RT3602AC chip which makes the cpu power management. After the exchange, the 5v has returned briefly then diseappered again without any change. The new SIO is very correctly soldered and has been thoroughly checked...
My next idea was to reflash the BIOS with a new 25Q64JVSIQ that have just ordered from China.... Would you have some other advise???? I have read that on Asus laptops, the ITE 8987E SIO was reprogrammed by the bios with no need to reprogram it before soldering. Maybe, my bios has got corrupted by the poor power supply of a failing charger...

Re: Asus TP412UA charging but DEAD

    Hi Friend,

did you fix your tp412ua mother, i have the same mother with the same issue. Orange light on charger LED, but never on power led, no fan, etc... 3V in power button and goes 0V, but nothing happens. Have too 3v, 5v and 12v (3v is 3.23v but i think it's enought).

    i reprogrammed bios too.

if you did fix yours, please tell me what you did.

    thx

Remove all power. Meter in resistance mode.

Measure the resistance to ground of each coil / inductor. Each such coil is linked to a local switching power supply.

If there is a heavy load (shorted cap, etc.), the current sense circuits will force the logic board to turn off.

Post any resistance that appears to be low. The CPU power rail is a low voltage so it is naturally expected to be a low resistance. Still post your measurements.

      No power during resistance checks!!
