    COMPAQ CQ40 no display

    Model :Compaq CQ40
    Platform : LA-4101P

The mb switches on and shuts off in few seconds and then restarts on its own and stays on. Voltages on all coils present. +5VS/+3VS/+1.5VS/+0.9V/+1.8VS/+2.5VS/+CPU CORE/+VCCP- All present but still no display. I have flashed a known good bios dump.

I feel the mb is not getting out of S1 state to S0 state and hence no display. I feel either southbridge or northbridge chipset is bad. Do you agree and if so which chip in particular??

PS: I doubt about the transition from S1 to S0 as clock generator function is not on.

Check H_RE S E T#. Probe BIOS CS# pin with the oscilloscope for any activity.
Could be anything, but northbridge or southbridge are suspects indeed.
What do you mean by "clock generator function is not on"?
