This laptop was brought in not responding to the charger, but it would turn on with a (charged) battery.
I dont have the schematic, but I traced the problem down to the charging chip (TI bq24725A), which had, according to the datasheet, an incorrect voltage on the ACDET pin. The voltage was 6.5, which the datasheet said should be between 2.4 and 3.15V in order for ACOK to come on.
I figured the voltage divider resistors had gone bad and replaced them (with different valued ones, calculated with this site. Now, ACOK is working, the laptop will power on, charge the battery and also works off of just the battery. Thought I was done fixing.
Problem is, I get nothing on the LCD. The LCD is completely off, not just the backlight. I only get a picture on an external screen and then only so far - windows 7 crashes halfway through loading with an ati driver error.
Any clue on where to look?
Mobo part number is: H000042260, in case someone happens to have a schematic.
