Issues with Charging My Lenovo Legion Y530 Laptop

Hi! I have a Lenovo Legion Y530 laptop that has started having problems when it's being charged. Sometimes, when I plug in the charger, it completely shuts down and I can't turn it on (as long as the charger is still plugged in), not even the LEDs light up. If I unplug it, it starts up normally. To get it back to normal, I have to leave it off for 20 minutes and then try to charge it again. At the moment, I don't have another charger to see if it is the cause of the issue.

I tried to discharge the residual power, I removed its battery and the BIOS battery, but unfortunately, it didn't help.

From what I observe, there are still dozens of people with such problems. Most people believe it is due to the latest BIOS update. I somehow managed to get an older version, but I can't get the laptop to start at all to install it.

Here is a guy with the same problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comm...s_and_freezes/

    Hello and welcome.

Would you have some test tools like a multimeter and tools to open this laptop for measurements?

Fault appears to be in the power path of the adapter to the main power rail. You may have a leaky mosfet.

Unfortunately, I am only an ordinary user (more than changing the thermal paste and a little software is beyond me). I tested the charger with a multimeter and it gave me 19.5V, I don't know how to test the small components , from the visual inspection, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong.
I found someone with the same problem: post 13 https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...93#post1655993

The thing is that if I manage to turn it on (with the charger in it) and leave it like that, I have absolutely no problem. When I unplugged it... good luck getting it back on

        Update:
        Motherboard: ey515/ey517/ey519/ey520 nm-b702

I forgot to mention, when it starts, the battery appears to be charged (80+%) but if I remove it from the power supply, it drops suddenly until it closes and the orange led lights up (discharged battery) and then the next time it starts it shows me 1%, I ordered a new battery to see if the problem persists..

        EC chip doesn't look fried.

Yes, certainly test with another known good battery. The EC visually looks good.

Remove all power. Disconnect the battery. Place your meter into diode mode.

Place the red meter lead, yes red to ground. The metal shield on the logic board is ok.

Place the black meter lead onto the part to test. Locate the battery connector pins on the logic board (the battery will not be connected during this test). Test each pin on the logic board's battery connector using the black lead. The red lead will remain on the metal shield.

When you do this, the DIODE mode measurement of each pin is of interest. We are specifically interested in the SDA and SCL pins of the battery connector. These are 2 communication lines used by the EC and charger IC to determine the battery features / charge details, etc.

          Post each measurement.

Disconnect your battery, try to turn it on only with the adapter. I don't think this is bios related tbh.

It does not start if I remove the battery and try to use it directly at the outlet. The LEDs don't even light up

Alright then, you should check two things on your laptop motherboard using a multimeter (diode mode or continuity) the id line that comes from the adapter (middle pin on the charging port) and the two first mosfets, do this on diode mode and you shouldn't have OL nor a low resistance close to 0. Usually you should get around 400-500mV (diode mode).
Edit: the battery is not the issue, I also have a lenovo legion (amd cpu) and starts fine without battery. The EC also should be fine, when this is the problem your laptop won't turn on ever.

                  by grimacelord
                  Hello there.

I am working on a Lenovo Legion T5-26AMR5 desktop that currently has a corrupt BIOS and I have been unsuccessful thus far in trying to fix it myself.

                  History:

                  1. This computer came to me initially with an error message that said "BiInitializeLibrary failed 0xc0000001" or "0135 fan error". It would always be one of the two errors. It should be noted that when it produced the fan error, there was no physical problem with the fans. They were all spinning just fine.

I searched for this error online and discovered...

                  Model: Lenovo Legion Y530

It works, but it takes some time to boot Windows.
I'm 99% sure bios is the problem, would somebody clean region ME from it? ...

                  Hi all!
I am self-taught in motherboard repair and I find myself somewhat lost.

                  Motherboard name: NM-B701
                  The info that i have:

The board arrived with a short on the 3VALW line (0.2ohms). I take out the coil and the short is on both sides. I remove the 3VALW AND 5VALW controller (RT6585) and now I only have short on the load side. I inject voltage (2v) into the 3VALW line and with the thermal camera the PCH heats up in one corner. I take it out and now 3VALW is at 270ohms. I inject 3v again and now the EC heats up. I remove it and short is gone (line...

Lenovo Legion Y530-15ICH Settings to dedicated Graphics
                  by x16
My Lenovo has a faulty intel Graphics i think. The display stays black. Video output works only over HDMI.
But i changed the graphics option in Bios from dedicated to switchable and now it boots up in windows but no picture anymore. No picture over hdmi, too.

Is there a possibility to put back the settings do dedicated in my bios file?...
