Hi,

Very new to this. So pretty basic / silly question. Can this be the cause of a totally dead mobo? And, is it repairable if I bridge tracks etc?

Yes, it can be fixed if nothing else is defective. Worth a try. See attached.

1) The small brown part is a deskiping capacitor and most likely 0603 0.1uf value. It is not absolutely mandtory to have one there so if in a pinch, this part can be removed. It is used to clean up small spikes in the voltage / power rail for the 8 pin IC.

2) Then wire from this IC as shown in yellow to bridge the broken PCB trace.
