Two dead FS Amilos: Pi 5325 and Pi 5340

    Hey, need help again!
I got two Fujitsu-Siemens laptops today, both from an used electronics store. I paid €10 for two laptops and one charger. Both are missing HDDs (caddys included) and the Pi 5340 has a broken screen and the other one was missing memory. Both of them seem to have dead boards: Pi 5325 turns on, has both power LEDs on, but the fan is not running and there is no picture on the screen. Pi 5340 does the same, but after a while the fan kicks in. So, is it fixable? 5340 uses Nvidia 9 series graphics, so that might be the problem, but 5325 uses Intel graphics, so not a graphics failure? Any ideas are welcome!

Made a mistake here: They are not 5340 and 5325, they are 3540 and 3525.
3540 might have a graphics issue, but the 3525 uses intel graphics, and i doubt the chipset would get this hot, considering the fact that this machine has a pretty good cooling system.

I'm going to tear them down to see if there is any visual damage to the boards.

Should i try them with an external monitor? And maybe i should replace all the polys on the motherboards? Just in case, you know.

I really don't think that the 3525 has busted gfx, since its Intel. I tried them both with an external monitor, and nothing.
A look under the 3425's hood:

So i have poked around on the net and all kinds of forums, and it appears that the BIOS is toasted, sounds like a typical problem for these models. Anybody got a BIN file for PI 3525/3540? It can be flashed by creating a crisis usb bios flash drive.
              I found this: https://forum.ts.fujitsu.com/forum/v...p?f=94&t=40926

I put the Phoenix crisis recovery thing onto the usb stick along with the bios file. Does anybody know the crisis mode/bios flash key combo?

Re: Two dead FS Amilos: Pi 5325 and Pi 5340

Some time has passed. I took the 3525 apart and saw that somebody had tampered with the voltage regulation and stuff, so i re-soldered all the suspicious joints and had the machine sit without a CMOS battery for two days. I got it to turn on two times, and now it's dead again. I currently have it sitting without the CMOS battery. 3540 on the other hand- i gave it a reflow a while back, and it did nothing. So i kind of gave up on it and it just sat on the shelf for a couple of weeks. Now I took it, removed the CMOS battery, and the thing fired right up! I tried removing the charger and the battery, leaving it off for a couple of minutes and turned it on again, still works! I'm going to see if it will continue running, just finished cleaning it and gave it new thermal paste. I will have to install windows on it and update the BIOS to 1.10 to prevent any further problems. And I'm going to swap the screen with the 3525's screen, since the screen on the 3540 is cracked. I can still see half of it, but it's too fucked up. So the conclusion is: if you have problems with these machines, give them a reflow and let them sit without the CMOS battery for a couple of weeks, and it might just fix them.

The odd thing is that the 3525 also decided to work. 3540 has t6400, 2gb memory, nvidia 9300. 3525 has t5800, 1gb memory and intel 4500mhd, and a broken screen. Still have to get HDDs for them and BIOS to 1.10c, but not a bad deal for €10, eh?
Tried to run both of them from a USB stick witk Linux, both worked.
