    A2141 No display

Hi. No internal display on this rather high end A2141. Works fine with an external lcd using type C external hub. No other fault and no liquid damage.

This is a common problem with this model. Apple wants the client (an old friend) to upgrade this $3k unit.

Fault is with the lcd display assembly and is not flexgate. PPVOUT_S0_LCDBKLT is 49v which is too high and a sink lcd load is not seen. Upon one lid opening, did see a brief flash of colourful graphics then dark.
    A
Issue is reported to be with a faulty batch of t-con boards in the display assembly.

Has anyone attempted such a repair?

Will review but this requires the David Carradine / Master Liu slim discs to carve off the lcd front glass to access the raw lcd panel. May be wiser to replace the display assembly because the defective part on the t-con board is not easy to source.

    Re: A2141 No display

50V is probably ok (spec is 59V). Unlike with 13" displays, there are no cheap aftermarkets from China for 15" and 16" displays. I guess this is why dead machines with working displays fetch good prices in the auctions.

Biggest issue I have in trying to disassemble these displays (apart from breaking the LCD during removal) is contamination of the backlight diffusers and polariser. You need the patience of a saint to do it, and I think it requires a great amount of practice. Not something I'd even do for a relative.

      Re: A2141 No display

      Thanks @reformatt.

The A2141 16" is a problem child and sharing the info we have found so far:

      https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/...cBook+Pro+2019

      https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/...ternal+is+fine!

The PPVOUT_S0_LCDBKLT @ 49v is deemed to be too high and due to the backlight rail being not under load. This missing load is due to a defective batch of the t-con boards and specifically a controller on that board.

Visited the local Apple store on Sunday (in Michigan) and the frontline kid did not want to challenge my investigation but seemed to hint to relay the same dialogue with the geek / nerd squad to perhaps have this display replaced under grace. He noted the warranty was expired but there was hope. We will share this information with our client. I do see one website selling the replacement t-con board but as you have noted, it will be a challenge to carve up the thin display without damage.

        Re: A2141 No display

The LCD flat ribbon cables also suffer from what is known as dustgate in some circles. The cables get punctured by particles getting crushed into the flex when the display is closed. I've seen some videos where these have been patched up with fine wires. There are also some companies out there who refurb these displays (works out cheaper than buying another display). As I said, takes practice so best to give it to someone who does it all the time (like phone screen refurbishers).

The 16" also noted for SSD failure too. Happens way more than it should.

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
          by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
          by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

LG OLED77G1PUA - No Video / Audio after a TCON Board change and Software Update
          by Hakuu
          Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help NeededπŸ™
          by Daren87
          Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

Lg TCon test pins for screen test
          by alltvrepairs
          Hi,
i have a 65 Panasonic TX-65HX710E using vestel 17MB170 main and Lg tcon.

Few drops of water fell probably near COF and have no display. Tried removing tabs but no.part of display present as if tcon fuse open. However 12v is present and tcon can be felt warm enough that supplies are present. Backlight and sound ok.

Anyone knows if this TCon 6870c-0805A has any special test pins for rgb test?

          Appreciate your help....
