    Dell Precision 7670 +Vcore Capacitors

Found a short to ground on a Precision 7670 +Vcore rail, used voltage injection to identify the bad capacitor and removed it. Short is now removed (2.2ohm on Vcore)

It doesn't look like schematics are public for this model, but it looks like other models (xps 9550, xps 7590) use pairs of 10uF caps here. Does this seem like a safe bet? I've got some spare from an XPS 9550.

10uF or better still 16uF.I think its safe to try.

do you have multimeter like vici 99 or fluke that have capacitance tester? if yes then remove the other caps nearby in the main rail and test it to know the exact value. but mostly of that rail is 10uf. and it would still be okay even if you doesn't replace it.

I went ahead and attached a 10uF cap there from a donor, waiting on dell to ship the CAMM to SODIMM so I can test. I'm not paying $300 for 32GB of RAM

It looks like there is enough that the 10uF I added wouldn't make much of a difference.

A shorted capacitor on a Core rail almost never happens. I am very curious about the outcome (is the device working at all?) Because I have strong doubts...

Just got the parts in and it boots up into bios without fault. I'm installing windows to stress test the CPU and GPU. I assume it shutdown immediately when it detected the short. Also, I rechecked the 9550 schematic, its probably VCORE_B+ which should be at 12V, not VCORE itself.
