    Lenovo y520 - gtx 1060 problema

    Hello,

Im pretty newbie, so your will hear maybe stupid experments from me. i think i ruined my graphic card. And sorry for my english, but i think the most peoples will understand it.

I got cheap and not working pc, fluided with liquarer lenovo y520, which dont worked. So first i cleaned motherboard with alochol, on the next step i started watch ohms at coils and near gpu i found almost 0.5 ohm, which instantly dropping to 0.1 and after that almost time i'm getting 0ohm. Sometimes again getting 0.5 ohm which droping to 0.1 and again for a while getting only 0. So i thought about short, only now i know, what newer gpu have small resistance... One friend told me, what on working gtx 1060 he got 0.1ohm.

Ok, i removed three coils(isolated NVVDD) , started testing everything, checked by removing thems and testing(but not under gpu) . And than i DID mistake, i added 1v injection to NVVDD and forget to set A LIMIT....
So my gpu or whatever at NVVDD taked 1V and 0.6A current and growed up to 0.728A, only gpu was a little warm., other parts was ok, without heat.
Like now i understand if gpu was not ruined before, so i did it by myself?

Than turned on pc with isolated NVVDD, it turned on, but no diaplay, checked ram, so one ram slot was bad, so now pc works fine, but only wit integrated GPU.

After my friend told me, what he got 0.1ohm on working gtx 1060, so i wanted to check and mine, becouse i dont dont do that. Added missing parts for fast test(but not all, some small capacitors not soldered, just wanted make fast test) and turned on pc, for my surprise for a short time i got alive laptop, but lenovo logo vas like from lego and it turned off, when pc just started rebooting every 5 sec without any display.

So I removed again coils, but still for a while computer keeps rebooting without anu display, i thought, what now i will have more problems. Unpluged charger and tryed after 10min and pc again several times rebooted and staryed working without any problems, but without gtx 1060.
So i burned gpu with 1V and 0.700A connected to NVVDD? I just even dont know if it worked before.

I want to test again, but with all capacitors now, but i see pc dont like it, can i burn somethinging more by doing this? Or just leave like it without gtx 1060

    Thanks for info.

The PC keeps rebooting(perhaps 6-8 times) as battery is not connected and thats cmos reset cycle on gaming laptops-so thats not an issue here. You can try putting everything back.

Also, it is the voltage which kills circuits, not the current. Of course you can blow up components with enough current set, but then there was already a issue before. So I somehow doubt you killed the GPU with 1V, although I'ts is at the border which is a acceptable voltage at +NVVDD.
So my bet is, either the GPU was dead from the beginning or you have the glitches/Black screen caused my bad or missing components in this circuit (you told, there were a few components missing when testing). Just note, some capacitors are more important than others. So check again when everything is back in place. And from there proper troubleshooting advised.

Hello, thanks for your answer. I have added all missing capacitors back into the places (except one, which is on top GPU and I think this capacitor was missed before. I don't think he does much, because connected in parallel with others (at red square, look foto)).

Ok, now I just turned on the PC, and something happened! PC turns on, and everything seems to be ok, but PC doesn't see my dedicated GPU... The device manager only sees my integrated Intel 630 GPU, i tried launch on Kubuntu, but they also do not see it, so I think the control chip don't turn on GTX 1060(maybe see some faults?) or something.

P.S. added photo of missing capacitor.

If it isn't recognized at all there must be missing voltages now. Checked what is present at +NVVDD, +NVDDS (if present) and the 1.35V for VRAM?

Edit: and while doing this, check also resistance to GND for the power rails mentioned above.

            Sorry for the late answer.

+NVVDD has 0.1 Ohm and 0V(yeap missing voltage), when starting to measure, usually shows me 0.5Ohm and then drops to 0.2 or 0.1Ohm(very rarely instantly shows 0.0 Ohm... or drops from 0.5Ohm to 0.0 Ohm), almost the same result on other board which works with the same GPU card (shows 0.2Ohm).

Voltage for VRAM is on FBVDDQ? Then it shows 105Ohm and 0V.

I tried to check mosfets and looks like they are working also tried to remove coils one by one, but nothing helped... Linux, windows and bios don't see GPU.

P.S. +NVVDD and +NVVDS on this motherboard are on the same line by boardview (+NVVDD and +NVVDDS use the same capacitors and other components), on the schematic shows separate lines.

P.S.S. When voltage is removed from the motherboard (no AC adapter, battery, RTC battery) for a while and then I try to turn it on the first time, the laptop turns on without a display and blinking keyboard backlight, then I should it turn off and start again when it starts normally, but without GPU :/

Well, I can tell you, i already had hundreds of gaming devices on my device and you can believe me: i have a rough idea of what to expect in the GPU circuit. So, yes till some extent you're right. Even below 1 Ohms should be okay, but low as 0.1 Ohms.. from my experience this fits to 1070 and 1080 only. However, leave it like that for the moment and look for PEX (PEXVDD, 1.0VSDGPU or similar) and share how it looks there. And from there we'll dig deeper.

Ok, soon I will check it, one more thing. PU5801 (RT8813DGQW_WQFN24_4X4)

NVVDD_EN and NVVDD_EN_R = 0V (i guess this signal should enable NVVDD mosfets?)
