Hi,
I just recapped a XFX GeForce FX 5500 256MB AGP8X video card, for one of my relatives. He was complaining of image distortion at times, and I decided to repair his card. There was one SANYO OS-CON and five Evercon 1000uf 6.3V 8MM caps on the card. I replaced all five of the Evercon caps with five Nichicon HE series 1000uf 6.3V 8MM caps. Put the recapped card into my relative's PC, and there was no more image distortion problems, even in his 3D games.
I later measured the capacitance of the Evercon caps with a digital capacitance meter. Four were fine at around 980uf, but one was at 22uf!
The 22uf cap wasn't showing any signs of failure, like crusty electrolyte leaking out or a bulging vent. Looks like Evercon still has problems, even after they renamed themselves from GSC.
Since the card is back with my relative, I cannot take pictures of the card. But, its working perfectly.
It seems some video card manufacturers prefer Nichicon caps now. My cousin's new ATI Radeon X1300 PRO PCI-E card has Nichicon caps, my own Leadtek GeForce 7600GS 256MB AGP8X has Nichicon caps, and I saw a BFG card in Staples with Nichicon caps.
