    Shuttle av18

    Hi Folks

I have a Shuttle av18 v4.0 motherboard that after a power outage refuses to do anything, no POST, doesn't even sync the monitor, no beep codes
I've messed with it quite a bit, pulled all components out, tried different power supply etc, nothing
visual inspection doesn't show anything obvious
is this likely to be an issue with the caps?
I had a VP6 recapped several years ago and it still runs great but it never acted like this, it was just flakey, locking up and stuff
any ideas how to debug this thing??

I know this sounds kind of obvious, but: did you try blanking the CMOS? I had a board that refused to boot AT ALL, no beeps or anything, until I cleared the CMOS.

I'll probably be the only person going to SteamOS once it gets out of beta (ha ha.)

I pulled the battery out of it to attempt to clear it but I think there may also be a jumper you can pull for a minute of two to clear/reset do something like that
I'm gonna see if I can find a manual and look into that
it has a 1.2 GHz PIII that I actually have an extra of so I've swapped out the CPU
      no luck
I don't think you can even buy a socket 370 MOBO anymore and I have the components to build a descent system from it, sure would like to get it going, it's run 24/7 for about the last 5 years
I looked ia again, it has G-Luxon and OST caps, both on the crap list here
but I wouldn't think caps would all of a sudden make it act like this
      you guy's are the pros

      Thanks for any advice
      Dave

Newegg still sells two Socket 370 motherboards. Both made by DFI.

I love it when a plan comes together
I went digging through my junk pile and found a perfectly good Abit BP-6 mobo
I guess I forgot I had it around, it was wrapped all nice in an anti-static bag
            building a new system now
