    Shuttle MK20-N

I'm just about to start the partial recap of my parents' motherboard, and have a question. Caps are all OST on this board, one visibly has a problem.

    Cap values are:
    3900uf at 10v x4
    2700uf at 6.3v x6
    1200uf at 6.3v x 6

A pic of the bad one - sorry about the quality:

Not too difficult telling which is the rotten one - green one on the left.

My question is this - I don't have the caps to replace the 1200's or 3900's, but I do have 5 brand new Nichicon HE's to do the 2700's, one of which is the one in the pic. I want to do all six, but the only other one I have is a 3300 at 10v Panasonic FM. I think I can fit it in there somewhere. Any reason I shouldn't use it as a 2700 replacement? I have a couple 2200 FM's I could use too.

the 2700uf caps can be easily replaced with 3300uf one. i replaced all the 2700uf caps in my Shuttle MV19 (Gloria caps - green) with Sanyo WG 3300uF with no problems. even with all my board i ever recap, i replace all 2200uf with 3300uf succesfully.

you can try to replace the 3900uf ones with the 3300uf FMs too, i think there will be no problem.

1200uf -> 2200uf; i can't guarantee it will works but it was once work for me, in the time where finding 1000uf/1500uf is impossible.

2700uF -> 2200uf; that will works too. but you may find some instability, or can't max out the cpu clock the board can be allowed.
days are so short when you actually do something..

Thanks - will use the 3300 FM then. I only have the one, so the 3900's still have no replacements, unless I use the 3900 Capxons I pulled out of the 3 CWT power supplies (I don't think I'll try that though).

Already did two of the 2700's... the leaning one in the pic was loose on that one lead (heatsink must have pushed on it too hard) but not bulging. No caps are visibly bulging on the board, but the system is not too stable lately.

Partial recap is done - board is up and running fine with the 5 HE's and 1 FM. The 3300 looks a little odd next to the Nichicons, but it works so I'm not complaining. Whether this solves the stability issues remains to be seen.
