    Netgear RT314 Router

I have one that I suspect has bad caps.

Q: does somebody know the trick to opening the case?

I have removed the four screws, but no case separation.
I don't like to strong-arm things, because they wind up breaking.

    Anybody?

I kept taking things apart until I found the trick:

The two standoff screws on the Management port DB9 is what holds the case pair together.

Once these are removed the top cover slides to the rear and the halves separate.

Inside I find an RT314RB board:
    (4) Taicon 8x13mm 25v 220uF 105C (VT)
    (1) Taicon 10x13mm 16v 1000uF 105C (VZ)
    (12) Taicon 6.3x7mm 16v 47uF 105C (ST)

    Samsung S3C4510X01-QERO RISC processor IC
    RTL8019AS Ethernet controller IC
    Intel Flash chipTE28F800
    Marvel 88E6050-RJJ 5-port Ethernet IC
    Delta LANF7236G LAN filter IC
    Motorola 34063AP1 dc-dc convertor IC

The symptom is random data corruption to the WAN side.
Replacing this one with a Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 corrected the problem.

How long as the data corruption been happening? Since Day 1? Just recently? Is there a lot of wifi in your area? I have 13+ wifi networks around my house.

The client reported it has been running a week or more.
This is not a wireless router.

Sorry, didn't look up the model number and just assumed it was wifi router.

Ask client to check 10/100 autonegotiation between router and ISP CPE (DSL or cable). ISP may have upgraded their CPE and perhaps there is an ethernet issue?

            It just went bad.
The router appears to be at least 7 years old.
The client is happy, happy with the WRT54GL now in place.
It offers better port forwarding (a bunch better), so it's all good.

I figure to recap the big caps, and leave the 16v/47uF alone.

UPNP, "Standards" and hardware that implements it
              by EasyGoing1
I've been writing a program in Java that is really just a robust front end for the use of GitHiub Gists, providing a nice interface for developers to organize, maintain and access code snippets that we tend to need from time to time in our different projects.

One of the features of the program is the ability for people to share their Gists with others who use the program over a LAN or over the Internet. The program just basically serializes a Java class and encrypts it then wraps it into a UDP datastream and sends it over to another user.

So I decided to implement UPNP...
