    Samsung syncmaster 906BW

I have an Acer 1706 that I have fixed because of info I got from this site and I am hoping that you guy's can help me out again.

I have been given a Samsung syncmaster 906BW and asked if I can fix it... Problem "unknown" - these kind of problems scare me.

I have had the screen for a few weeks now and got some info about it, It's been roughly a year since it last worked, this is important to me because when I plugged it in (after hooking up the VGA) it whined or hissed like the old televisions used to do when they were really old, I thought it odd, but nothing I haven't heard before.

When turning this thing around, the power button is blinking every few seconds but nothing happens when I try to switch it on. I have not taken it apart, and haven't examined or tested anything inside. When I do, what can I test for and look out for?

I do have a basic digital craftsman multimeter and 5 years experience with electrics/electronics but if you'll pardon the expression, I am a little rusty as it has been nearly ten years since I done anything electrical or electronical... Please, be gentle with me.

My soldering as I discovered with my Acer 1706, is still top notch and could almost do blindfolded.

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like bad capacitors dying. If true, you won't get stable secondary power which explains the blinking power button.

The very first monitor I fixed hissed and it turned out to be bad caps.

Once you get the monitor open, you can post clear focused pictures using the manage attachments feature for more help if needed. Please do not post pictures inline.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.
