KRK Rokit 5 RPG2 studio monitor speaker - random noise

I have a pair of KRK Rokit 5 RPG2 studio monitor speakers. They were in cool, dry, dust-free storage for 12 months, and after recently unpacking them I've noticed that one of them has developed a fault.

If powered down for some time, then powered up, the speaker generates moderately loud and randomly fluctuating noise for up to 10 minutes. The noise level is unaffected by the input signal, the gain level, or even the presence of an input at all. If the speaker is completely unplugged (except for power) the noise remains. Playing an audio signal through it does not distort the signal, however the noise is there "over the top". After a while, the noise disappears, sometimes after a moderate "pop" sound.

The other speaker is working perfectly fine.

I enquired with KRK (now Gibson) and they weren't able to help me specifically, but their agent did say that it sounds like a capacitor issue. So I'd appreciate any advice on how to get started fixing this issue, please.
