the downside of triple monitors - speaker dilemna

So, a short while back I ordered a Yahama RX-V375 receiver and two Pioneer speakers. while it went graet with the Blu-Ray player and 46" HDTV, I barely ever use it. if I do watch TV it's Netflix on the PC anyway.

Before, I was using a 2.0 pair of Bose computer speakers which fit sideways under the monitors where they sit next to each other if that makes sense.

Obviously I wanted the better sound on my computer that I use for Netflix, Pandora, Spotify, or BF4. I stuck the Yamaha under my bed (near the desk and the PC), ran a optical audio (SPDIF? TOSLink? ) whatever it's called to it, and put the Pioneer speakers behind my monitors. No surprise, it sounded like shit. So courtesy of Newegg's shipping department I used boxes as temp speakers standard to raise them up. It's much better, but it's too high now - if I stand in front of the PC it's noticable better than if I sit. Kind of a bummer.

I searched for but could not find a set of speaker stands that will sit on my desk but raise the speakers above my LCDs and angle them downwards toward me securely. After all, if it fell, not only would it break the speakers but three monitors and an IP phone as well as anything else on my desk at the time.

    So, suggestions would be appreicated.

Have you considered laying the speakers flat on their sides?

And as far as angling down is concerned, some Auralex MoPads (or similar) would take care of that, not to mention de-coupling the speakers from whatever they're sitting on
