Help Revive Dead Blue Ring Tester

My Blue Ring tester stopped working, went blank, and would not respond to any inputs. It's possible that the test leads were connected to a live circuit, and/or the circuit under test had a live cap and the discharge fried something in the blue ring tester. Or, it may have been something else. This happened more than a year ago. I want to get it working again and am looking for instructions on how to troubleshoot my dead blue ring tester.

I have the original assembly instructions and the circuit diagram but lack the know how to understand and isolate circuits and check them for problems.

Any helpful stories and links will be appreciated.

Most likely IC1 (CD4069) was fried.
Contact AnaTek they will replace or sell you the part, or order it from Digi-Key, Mouser.

Unlike the Blue ESR meter that is protected from charged caps up to 50 volts the Ring Tester doesn't have any protection so you have to be extra careful.

I put IC sockets in mine in case I ever make this mistake. If you order from Digikey pick some sockets up it makes IC replacement a breeze.

Luckily the Ring Tester is built from standard off the shelf parts that you can get anywhere and doesn't use a programmed micro.
