    Re: Pavilion G6 dead

As explained in the first post, PU5 and Q11 got hot and I replaced them.
It seemed the short was fixed. But there was a contact broken on PL16, so the short was still there, only was not noticed anymore and the IC's didn't get hot.
Now I replaced PL16 and the short is back.
That means, that the short is gone when I loosen one side of the PL16.
But as I said above, PC211 shows a 56 Ohm value, this is not a short, is it?
    PL16 to gnd = 52 Ohm.
On PU5, pin17,18,1,3 are gnd, but I get 0 Ohm on pin 4 also. short?
There suppose to be +1.5VSUS which also comes from PL16?
    Where to begin?

      Re: Pavilion G6 dead

now it is very confusing. I plugged in the mobo again to check if more parts get hot, but all my voltages are gone or less than half than before. How is that happening?

Took off PL16 to see if the previous situation would come back, but that did not help. Most of the voltages were less than half.
PU8 pin 16 should be 19,81V but was now 3,45V :Pin 8 was 3,35V and now 1,05V and so on.
Suddenly there was smoke and the KB3940 was blown up. Why this happened now again?

          Re: Pavilion G6 dead

No, I was not sure, I took it from a spare board. Is that the killer? Part of the voltages look ok. I'm surprised, because the fixing of the PL19 caused new trouble and when I took it off the problem started with the "half voltages" on PU8.
Forgive my ignorance, I'm not a pro.
It looks like I have to order some new parts or try to get a "new mobo".

Thanks for your time and help.

You know wath is pu8 ?
is main power supply controllers for notebook SMPS IT PROVIDES 5V AND 3.3V
ie you must to replace it with new or sure working ic
if no causes damaged for all board : ene -chip -......

Like I said, I'm not a pro and I learned something serious, thank you.
This is probably what started the problems, because I also used different brands for the eeproms what is listed in the "list of pin compatible.." thread. Same mistake, this must make a pro angry, sorry for the inconvenience.

Don't worry about making a pro angry, everybody makes mistakes even a pro, this is one of the way to learn, you are in the right direction if you don't make the same mistakes.

You're welcome, there is more to come. I have to buy a number of new components and than the story continues

Maybe I made the promise to soon.
The EC chip U18 was also burned (at the same time?)
                        Now I need:
                        2x Bios/EC chip preprogrammed € 40,- empty € 12,44 ,U31 + U18
                        1x ENE KB3920 € 3,55 U14
                        1x UP1585 € 4,65 PU8
                        1x G5616 € 4,79 PU5
                        1x QM3002 € 4,00 PQ11
                        1x AON6790 € 4,89 PQ5

Total amount with self programming € 34,82 and preprogrammed € 55,86
Prices based on lowest Ebay prices

On the same Ebay you can buy the motherboard for € 70,00 to € 90,00, tested with 30 days warrenty.

I think that the difference is to small to do all the work.

                        Thanks Guys for the input.

take the mother and put the charger and press the power button if working power the power supply controllers ic is good 99%
and you can use it as replacement .
70% of problem power in laptop a cause the controler ic
but for another ic you can try because no causes great problem if it s damaged .

                          good chance

In a couple of days, I will get another mobo in (same type) with no power.
I would like to pick up the thread here again for a second try.
