I got extra FFC/FPC Flexible Flat Cable Ribbon.

But the top connectors are to long, they are a bit to long, the wires stick out of the slot.
The blue thing on the end, how do you shorten that bit?

Scissors or a sharp blade although if they are not going to touch anything I wouldn't worry.

I just stuck electrical tape over the wire part.

Hot glue gun here, is it any good?

It's going to melt the glue stick and costs £4. That's good enough for me.

the FFC cable is longer than the old one and it catches on the CPU fan?

Bend it in a flat S shape to take up the slack.

One last thing, what tape is used that connects heat sink and fan together in a laptop called?
                  Need some of that.

Got rid of that rattling sound, used some of this tape

I remember the tape was like a plaster type sticky tape om the CPU fan.

A photo would help. The fans are usually screwed down. Is the tape just for directing airflow ?

I'd use some aluminium tape then, sticks well and shouldn't come off with heat, or copper tape.
No need to buy a roll if you don't want.
PM your address and I'll pop a piece in the post to you.

Where do you get aluminium tape from then diff?

Can you buy it in Maplins?

Yes maplins sells it, I got mine from ebay for BGA rework and for sealing some aluminium backed insulation in my loft.

That has the same heat resistance as my electric tape from Screwfix.

How much temperature can this tape handle before it will melt?

performs well in temperatures of up to 80°C

I've had it up to 237c, which far exceeds the temperature in any laptop. All that happens if the adhesive goes slightly tacky, it's not going to melt until it gets past 600c.

I used hot glue from that hot glue gun I bought from Aldi, to stick the laptop palmrest to the metal thing!!

I also used hot glue to stick the broken off screw part with hot glue forgot to add the sliver part on the top bit.

Would the hot glue melt under the gpu on the palmrest side just asking?

I don't think the glue touches the cpu cooler on the other side.
