Samsung PN50C450 plasma image lava lamp and sprakles

hi

plasma tv powers on fine but image is very very grainy with sparkles and red and purple colors...a mess

once in a while the picture comes in perfect but then after about 2 min it goes bad..and this is random

i have seen this before on plasmas and i am going to assume its a bad y board

i have tested Vs Va Vsc and Ve and all are good from the PS and also at the y board

any input?

Try running the test patterns. That way you can rule out the mainboard if display is still bad.

thanks i may have solved the issue ..i thought for a second why would tv have a good pic once in a while but 99% of the time not?

i tapped on the y board and the picture went perfect...ah ha!!!

heat plus solder plus melt = possible broken solder joint

i removed y board and looked around heated areas and found 1 broken solder joint on one of the compoenents under the large heat sinks..i resoldered and picture is ok

will see if this was the issue..will leave tv on for a while

Tv fix fix.....it also had a secondary issue....a intermittent vertical stripe in same location all time....i put a piece of foamy rubber over the bonded connection in that area...now no vert stripe ....beautiful picture
