    Uninstalling the uninstallable

I picked up an IBM wireless card which was just a run of the mill Lucent WaveLAN card with IBM firmware and badging and in the process of getting it setup for my CF-25 toughbook I had to install the wireless utilities IBM supplies which are identical to the regular WaveLAN utilities but will refuse to work if anything but an IBM card. I really only needed it for the driver though so I could perform the Alchemy mod and reflash and upgrade the card.
Anyways, now that I took the appropriate steps to reflash the card from an IBM rebadge to the stock WaveLAN, the IBM utilities no longer work and were removed and replaced with the stock utilities that Lucent released.
    Or so I thought.
The Wireless network control panel did not uninstall itself.
When I install the stock utilities it also detects the utility as present and does not overwrite it either. So I'm left with a half working set of utilities where I can view signal strength and select wireless profiles but I can't set the card up to connect and generate the profiles the other utility needs.
How do I remove it? FYI, I'm also running Windows 98SE.

Find the EXE that of the utility in windows system32 or in program files and hit delete. Might be able to find it in the registry by name.

I didn't manage to find much there but managed to track down most of the control panel components in the system folder and that cleaned up that part of the problem. Generally if it had "wl" and "ibm" in the same file name, it had ot be removed.

The second part appears to be the fault of the installer which does not include both utilities. Either I got the wrong installer or the other utility really lies in the driver itself and I somehow came across a "castrated" version of the driver" which omitted it.

Sounds like more research is ahead of me.
