Intended to take some pics for quite sometime. i am quite liking the ZyXEL DSL routers, great for offices with a bunch of people on the DSL and havent needed to reboot one yet. But they appear to be a ticking time bomb as i have mentioned several times here.

the router with the ZyAIR B-120 PCMCIA 802.11b wireless card that can be inserted into the router. It has no possibility to add external antenna so is not really a good thing to get. the range was ok to the other side of the house until i closed my door. anyway nice for an hour of play but save your money and get a good AP to connect to the router's switch. I like the black of the new routers. the old beige ones are more ugly. the leds are green and orange when it would have been much cooler to have blue and white. anyway...

4 port switch with 1 dmz port. serial port for external dial up back up modem. the good thing about this router is the built in firewall which reduced my blackice events to practically zero incidents. This is something which i think is very useful for the average user and in this model the firewall can be enabled successfully in a few clicks although it has settings for advanced users also. The DMZ port means that you can stick an email or webserver on it and allow access from the internet to that server while preventing access to other machines on your network.

Routers are looking pretty complicated, Zy this and that. Looks well built, they seem to use a lot of their own proprietary chips also. i like routers rather than modems. i think they are useful even for the general user because once the router is configured correctly it is easy for them to expand around the house and give new users internet access by learning how to run lan cabling or wireless and then changing only a few network settings on the new computers.

that pic says it all....the designer labels of cap manufacturers Jackcon and Hermei.....lol
the unit also gets real hot. i think a fan mod might be in order. it is sitting on a paperback which is on top of my switch so they quit roasting each other. heat and crap caps is a no no.
