Amd Athlon CPU upgrade ?

I have Emachines E L1330 SF with AMD Athlon 64-2850E would it be any good to upgrade to AMD-Athlon-X2-5050e and will Emachines E L1330 handle it?
I have 4 GB Ram, thanks

Upgrading to a Athlon-X2 5050e would give you a substantial performance boost over the 2850e, but would still only be on par with a low-end first gen (Conroe) core2duo(the Athlon 5050e is about on par with a C2D E6400), and you can buy a complete Core2Duo system for less than $50 theses days (even later gen and higher end systems that will run circles around an Athlon 5050e). Given that a 5050e will generally run you $15-20 it probably isn't worth your time to mess with that old e-machines, you can pick up a used Core2Duo Dell-OptiPlex, Lenovo Thinkcenter, etc. with a Core2Duo for not much more than that Athlon X2 will cost you and these business-class systems generally have much better components (Motherboard, PSU, etc.) than a "bargain-basement" e-machines does.

As for the actual compatibility of the Athlon-X2 5050e on that board, it is hard to say, they are both AM2 socket CPUs so in theory it should work, but the X2 draws substantially more power so the VRM (and even PSU on an SFF system like that) may not be up to the task (especially on a cheap entry-level system like an e-machines), and OEM BIOS can always be fickle with upgrades.

i have a pc with a motherboard that looks identical to the one in yours and my has a amd athlon 7450 with geforce 8200 onboard gpu and possibly the same psu the computer model is acer aspire x3200 and emachines is basically and cheaply acer and it made under acer brand. what gpu/chipset do yours have?
