    Looking for an old FAQ

    Hi,

    I've got two Abit KT7A's, one of them the RAID model. Both work, don't have any issues with bad caps (yet) knock on wood. I'd like to tinker with the BIOS but really need some pointers.

    There used to be this really great FAQ on the Abit KT7 series motherboard out on the net by the name of "Paul's KT7 FAQ". Well, I can't find a good web page that has a copy, PLENTY of hits on Google referencing to it, but no real info.

    Anyone here happen to keep a copy of it? Or have their own FAQ on this m/b?

    Damn....how'd this one sneak by??????

    can't really help you on the FAQ. About the only thing i did was change some pictures. not sure if TC has done any BIOS mods, but i've been trying to get some info from a former associate......to no avail i'm afraid.

    wish i could be of more help, but maybe trying to muddle through the google bs is about the best course.

      Well Google really ain't much help here, tons of references to the FAQ, but no real web page that has it. Even the VIA Arena and VIA Hardware forums draw a blank.

      The best that I've been able to come up with so far is this set of pages; KT7A BIOS Tweak Guide but I think it's not nearly as complete as I remember Paul's FAQ.

      Anyway, as I was writing this (and doing more Googleing), I've just managed to find a e-mail address for Paul and fired off a quick message to him. Maybe he's got a copy on a floppy somewhere...

        Here is what little I have:

        For the best compatibilitie use the Pci cards on specific Pci slots.
        In the ABIT KT7 & KT7A, IRQs are shared by the following devices:

        "INT Pin 0": AGP card and PCI Slot 1
        "INT Pin 1": PCI Slot 2 and PCI Slot 3 and ACPI (if enabled)
        "INT Pin 2": PCI Slot 5 (and HPT370 controller in KT7-RAID)
        "INT Pin 3": PCI Slot 4 and PCI Slot 6 and USB

        PCI 1 avoid (shares agp)
        PCI 2 best for soundcard
        PCI 3 avoid if using 2 (shares 2)
        PCI 4 Good for NIC
        PCI 5 avoid (shares highpoint)
        PCI 6 avoid if using 4, but use before 1 or 3
