    Well...I took the plunge....

Signed up for Verizon DSL. 1.5Mb is like $30 and 3Mb is $40. I signed up for the 3Mb, but I think I'm not in an area that supports it. I'm getting a good 1.5Mb connection though. I went with the DSL because I got a free month to check it out. After complaining about a 3 week wait for the account activation (I got the equipment within 5 days), I got an extra month if I would stay. So what the heck. Also, Adelphia cable here is $80. :o There are some issues with Adelphia in this area as well.

Sooooo.....DSL it is. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Verizon sent me a Westell 2200 modem. The next few days I'll be doing a bit more research to see about getting a faster connection.

The important thing is that now I can download my porn faster. just kidding.

Actiontec MI424WR for Verizon FIOS: tricking Verizon?
        by eccerr0r
A friend of mine has an Actiontec MI424WR on FIOS - one of the older "unsupported" ones that Verizon is now charging a monthly fee for simply having one of them - basically forcing them to cough up or upgrade to a "supported" one. Barring the politics of this BS, has anyone figured out a way to trick Verizon into thinking that it was upgraded to a "good" version?

What's the specific problems with this router in why they want to force everyone to pay up or replace? Anyone figured out?

Unfortunately I can't remotely play with this rout...
