I believe this topic fits this section, since it falls within a custom modification.
Since my padded phone cover has pouches, I decided to try fitting a Griffin Beacon in it.
The connectors for the RF transceiver board were removed and replaced with wirewrap wire with some delicate soldering, since I cannot stack the boards on each other; otherwise, they would not fit in the case.
There are three clear IR emitters on the top with one black IR phototransistor on the bottom of the spine.
Despite having a linear 3.3V regulator instead of a switching one, the IR transmitter (all three IR emitters being used) works happily off the power being drawn off the USB OTG connector and was not overloading it so far.
Importantly, I kept the pushbutton for pairing handy.
Too bad there isn't a cover with this module and battery installed...
