I have been nice to my T30 since I got it almost new four years ago. When on a desk the vents were kept open, when in the dock there was noting obstructing them either. When on my bed I made sure it was propped up on something so there was still circulation. I cleaned the inside and regreased the CPU annually.
Yet earlier in the week I'm in bed and the screen locks up. Cycling the power gives me a computer which won't even fire the backlight let alone the screen. Found that sometimes pressing on the Radeon 7500 mobile chip fixed it but sometimes removing the ram on the second ram slot (T30's have a known issue where the second slot goes bad and you can just keep a stick out to keep it running) worked half the time as well. Decided to bite the bullet and gave the GPU a 17 second blast with a heat gun which stopped the display not working at boot or when waking up from suspend but it's still hit and miss.
I'm using it right now (with a single stick of ram) to type this but ANYTHING could lock it up again. I could bump a corner. I could use the trackpoint nub. I could even be typing this and that could cause it to lock solid. Yet if I stress test the video chip or ram I can't get it to crash.
