Yes, preventative recapping is always a good idea. Usually, I try to avoid getting hardware with junk caps, but if I do, then I often recap it before it fails.
    @C_hegge

Actually, I bought the Asus A7N8X capacitor kit, for my recap project.
Yes, you are right it does not cost USD$80, but since I based at overseas,
after doing the currency conversion, I forked out approx. 100 dollars in
    my own country currency.

Hopefully, those caps will revive my A7N8X-Deluxe Motherboard.
I am just having this problem, it can boot up but after about a few seconds,
the motherboard just stops, and I unplug & replug the power cable at my
PSU, in order to boot the motherboard up and run POST, that is the only
way. But even though, it is doing POST, after a few seconds,
it will completely shut down after running about 1 mins top.

I have tested the motherboard using 2 different make of PSU,
problem. I don't think the PSUs are faulty.

    Thank you

Just be extra careful with how you install the capacitors, because Asus and Asrock use the negative strip for the positive side of the capacitor on the motherboard.

I mean the negative strips will not match, like in this picture:

Thanks for the reminder, I notice about the labellings on the Asus and Asrock
        motherboard.

That is by convention, the half circle that is completed filled, should be
NEGATIVE logically, following modern capacitors has its "-" negative side
        completely filled.

However, that is totally the opposite in Asus and Asrock motherboards, the
half circle that is completed filled is identify as "+" positive side.

Rest assure that I will use a fine tip marker pen, label the motherboard
surface as which sides are "+" and "-" first before recapping the capacitors.

        Thank you.

          RTX 3080 FE Identifying capacitor
          by Prolog
Hi people, I hope this is the correct spot to post this, I'm new to the forum.

I have an RTX 3080 Founders Edition which has a burnt up capacitor (it was in parallel with another capacitor which appears damaged too), so I am hoping to be able to identify the capacitor values and order replacements.

I hope these photos make it clear which component I am referring to:
(yes, the soldering is a bit botched from removing the blown one, I know)

I have found the board schematic (attached), but there does not seem to be a boardview available. I have never...

How can I test non-polarized capacitor?
          by chth96
I desoldered samwha NF capacitor(50v 5.6uf) from PCB circuit of 29inch CRT TV which have symptoms of no display after I heard sound of inrush of current to TV whenever I switch on this television.
I measured ESR value of this non-polarized capacitor(samwha NF capacitor 50v 5.6uf) by means of MESR-100 ESR meter and It displayed 0.3 ohm

And When I measured its capacitance with digital multimeter and LCR-T4 Mega328 meter, It displayed 10uf from DMM and 8uf from LCR-T4 meter.
I found catalogue of samwha capacitor(samwha-catalogue_3.pdf file), which is attached to this thread,...

          Should I replace polymer capacitor?
          by chth96
a few days ago I finally purchased mser-100 v2 and I tested its abillity of measuring ESR value.
I found that It shows pretty accurate ESR value for electrolytic capacitor,But When I measure polymer capacitor of dreamcast game console,I found that one third of polymer capacitor's ESR value is more than twice the value of ESR meter table.(for example, I measured one polymer capacitor of 6.3v 100uf, It showed ESR value of 7.68)
Although my dreamcast now turns 20 years old but it still works. I occasionally have played game with it.
Is this ESR value of polymer capacitor correct?...

          Samsung C32HG70 - Blown Ceramic Capacitor (CP813)
          by NuclearSpartan
          Hi everyone,

I'm new to this, so I apologize for not providing enough details. Is there anything else I need to mention? I'm trying to learn more about electronic/board repairs and hopefully fix my own.

The only visible issue on my board is one capacitor, CP813, which appears to be labeled R 221k 2kV (possibly obsolete to B 221k 2kV now). My monitor hadn't shown any prior issues, although it is a few years old. Just before the capacitor popped, there was a high-pitched squeal for 2–3 seconds.

I don't see any other visible damage anywhere else on the board....

Fried capacitor on Dell-5520. Guilty as charged.
          by Lapsmith
While installing new SSD's in my new to me Dell 5520 laptop, I dropped a screw which sparked and fried a capacitor. Yes, I know I should have disconnecte the battery first Doh!😡. The laptop runs fine, but I want to replace the capacitor asap. I ordered and received the replacement (10uF, 25V 0603). Since I also managed to burn up one of the pads it was soldered to, my main question is whether it is okay to solder this capacitor on top of another capacitor (same size, same function in circuit). Specifically, PC4428 is bad and no way to easily solder to the board. I would like to solder it piggy...
