Question about Series on master list

    Hello
Noob to the forums and to caps replacement,I've found the Capacitance & Voltage I need on the master list they are Nichicon but there are 4 choices
for the one I need, other then sizes, the series has me confused from searching the forums I found a tread with click-able nichicon series HN/HZ/HM for Info. but the links were dead any help would be appreciated not sure how or whether the series makes a difference.

    Thanks for any help

Re: Question about Series on master list

All of those are low impedance and can be used on a PC motherboard. There are differences in their ESR and ripple values. HZ is the best (HM<HN<HZ) and probably the most expensive.

    As an example, for a 1000uF 6.3v 8x15mm cap:

    ESR values (lower is better):

    HM: 28 mOhm
    HN: 20 mOhm
    HZ: 14 mOhm

    Ripple values (higher is better):

    HM: 1490 mA
    HN: 1700 mA
    HZ: 2210 mA

    These are their datasheets:

Nikochan Thanks for the reply and the great Info. and data sheets as you can tell by my question I'm a defendant a newbe and didn't know where to start after I get these parts order I got a lot more homework to do.
      Thanks again for the help

Re: Question about Series on master list

another point is to try and match the ESR somewhat close, a little improved over the original is fine, but if you put a super low ESR cap into an application that was designed for a standard cap, such that its new ESR is far lower than the original, you can run into oscillation problems.
