TV CCFL Inverter Designs

As I get into fixing more and more written off TVs, a mystery of design I keep wondering about is, why are some inverters for tube-lit TVs really complex, and others really basic. I've just worked on a 42 inch TV that has two inverter boards, packed with SMT components, two inverter transformers per board, and miscallenous other gear. I've worked on other TVs where the inverter circuit is on the power supply board, and has a simple oscillator, copule of driver FETS and an inverter transformer. Please explain?

Maybe the complex circuit has more features as soft start and several protection mechanisms.

I agree. I just wish they would save those CCFL tubes from dying though! Complexity doesn't seem to help al lthat much.
