I have successfully replaced the caps now on two motherboards - using exact same caps but new. Now, I think I've got the hang of it. I have three more mobos that have cap issues - all older dell machines. The caps that I keep seeing needing replaced are 6.3v 2200uf. Looking at Rubycon stats, the 6.3v 2200uf has a ripple value of 2770 and ESR rating of 11. I've heard you can go up in voltage and it should be ok. Is that right? If I increase to 10v 2200uf Rubycon with 3230 ripple value and ESR rating of 9, should the caps last longer than going with the 6.3v exact replacement?
There is a slight larger height but I have plenty of clearance. Do I understand correctly that you want larger ripple and smaller ESR and voltage doesn't matter as much as long as you replace with higher value?
