JVC Plasma VM-42V31 stuck in standby

My JVC VM-42V31 plasma will not turn-on.

When I press the power button the green LED comes-on and the relay on the power supply board clicks in. But after about 5 seconds the relay trips-out and the LED turns red. When the relay is activated there is a slight fizzling sound from the power supply but that may be normal.

Any ideas would be very gratefully received.

Ok unplug the y and z sus form the power supply.

Turn on the TV and see if it comes out of stand by.

No, exactly the same with the X Sus and Y Sus boards unplugged from the PSU.

One bit of misinformation I gave initially, after about 5 seconds the steady green LED changes to a flashing green LED when the relay trips-out.

I've just noticed, when the relay trips-out the red protection LED on the power supply illuminates.

this set I think is the same as the Philips 42PF9946 in that it has Samsung boards, but they were never used in any Samsung set I have ever seen only JVC and Philips , the power supply has three boards alone, so I can only tell you to start checking for any caps that have domed tops, we need better photos of the power boards and there connectors to see if we can jumper it on to see if all the voltages come up Flocko

Thanks for all your help guys, I've finally got it working.

Capacitor 8031 on the SMPS was faulty (1.0uF 600VDC) - it was very slightly bulged at the sides.

Good work Les, It the best place to start with older sets chances are there will be a few more caps that are on the turn? there must be 20-30 caps over the three boards. Flocko
