Sorry for bringing and old thread alive, but I have the exact same issue as Swartz and wanted to know if he ever fixed it.
In all my research for this issue - I have found posts from Swartz looking for help. Did you manage to solve it.
The problem:
Running ESXi on a GX280 with 4 GB RAM - ESXi only sees 3 GB RAM
I understand and accept this problem lies in BIOS.
The last bios from dell A08 came out in March 2006. As it was so long ago - its a safe bet they won't resolve it.
