Western Digital has announced laptop drives with a height of 5mm
, though they use special edge connectors incompatible with conventional SATA ports. Despite everything they say to try and sound reassuring, I can't help but be doubtful about the reliability.
StorageReview's WD740GD has a quicker access time than mine, but I hate to think of the seek noise.
Not sure the ST31500341AS is reliable as it is, being a 7200.11...
Based on release dates, transfer rates would be better compared between the first-generation Raptor and the 7200.7, or between the second-gen Raptor and the 7200.7 Plus (referring here to the 200GB 2-platter model, not to 8MiB cache). However, I wasn't comparing transfer rates, and the first-generation Raptor was ball-bearing, so I don't trust it.
