    Well, it might be the fact that the degree of quality varies with each and every product. When millions are being produced I don't think any one product is bound to turn out exactly the same in every facet. That's interesting.... I had a similar drive (ST1000DM003?) that said it was APM capable and it even showed that it was set to "128" in HDDScan, but when I tried turning it off, nothing happened... I think Seagate locked that option. :/ Probably better nothing happened though, there are scary reports of a flurry of bad sectors arising once you turn APM off on those kinds of drives, so obviously something is amiss with them. As for Western Digital drives, they have always been much louder for me in every regard, excepting the Scorpio Blue drives, which are the quietest drives I've ever used, aside from their head parking noises.
