Re: External Charger for Online UPS
The system has been running as expected. Had to change the dpdt power relay once.

Re: External Charger for Online UPS
Could you have a look the attached picture which pretty much outlines the whole concept.
Concern:
But someone informed me that the smaller 9A (SLA) batteries will be damaged very soon by the bigger external batteries (Flooded Lead acid) due to circulating current.
IF the above scenario is a real fact, then how come APC or others ups manufacturer offer external battery banks that has much higher capacity than internal ups batteries,...

Re: External Charger for Online UPS
The internal charging circuit will take around 5 continuous days to charge those two 75A batteries. Thats where the external charger comes in.
As for synchronization, which really isn't an issue here since the relay will connect the External batteries to the External charger after disconnecting the external batt from the UPS and vice versa.
This means the charger will be always isolated from the UPS internal charging circuit.
here C1 is External Batt +
and C2 is External...Last edited by minitt; 11-16-2014, 01:52 PM.

External Charger for Online UPS
Lets start with the Objective
1.To increase the backup time of my Double conversion Online UPS
2.Ensure fast recharge for both internal & external batteries
3.Make sure external charger remains completely isolated from the UPS internal charging circuit.
A brief description:
The UPS internal battery is connected to a AC powered timer relay.
The AC powered timer relay also connects to the external battery bank and an external battery charger.
This is a DPDT( Double Pole Double Throw) Relay. Contact rating is 120A@28VDC. Relay...Last edited by minitt; 11-16-2014, 12:10 PM.

Re: PSU holdup time vs UPS switching time
dats some nice info....
Btw the place where i live has a 220V system ....
So, replacing the Single primary Cap (100uf @400v ) to something bigger should shoot the problem???
if so, can someone tell me the spec for replacement capacitor?
thnx.

Re: PSU holdup time vs UPS switching time
i just found something interesting.
PSU with Active PFS has problem with UPS that gives output in modified Sine Wave.
is this true???

Re: PSU holdup time vs UPS switching time
Just looked in to PSU and the model is DLP 50 W/Actv. PFC by Delux that uses a Single Primary capacitor with 100uf @400v - Teapo.
So, please advice proper replacement for this specific CAP.
thanx.

PSU holdup time vs UPS switching time
hi,
i have a 1.2 year old PSU, which i want to modify to increase it's Hold up time.
Because my PC (even during less intensive usage) sometimes restarts during AC brownout/Blackout.
The UPS is rated at 800 va (24V system 2 X 12V@ 8amp each. Both batteries are new) which holds the PC fine most of the time except recently.
So my guess is the Secondary Filtering stage capacitor (on 12v rail) within the PSU could be bad or need a bigger one Or may be the solution lies somewhere else.
Thanx in advance for ur help.

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial DISCUSSION
Delux 500 watt PSU
actual watt 300 ... written on the PCB and checked marked by a pen.
Model: DLP-50A
12V1 20A (12v1 and 12v2 are physically seperate)
12V2 22a
5V 18A
3.3 28A
5 vsb 2.5A
-12V 0.5A
230V at 50hz 4A
ACtive PFC circuit visible ( so i know its there)
please comment on the biuld quality.

UPS battery diagnosis
hi,
i have a 800VA UPS with data cable to monitor AC fail status and shutdown
after designated time is passed but it dosent show battery charge level.(Not apc i guess)
However it says it can output 480 watt on its back . its 220v 50HZ UNIT.
24V system. 2x12V (7 amp each) so 24V @7 amp.
Here comse the mystry part.
i have a digital meter hooked up with the battry ternimal.
**when connected to AC outlet the reading is 27V...
so is it ok that the chrging Volt is 27 for 24v system?????...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial DISCUSSION
hm thnx 4 ur explanation....
n i think u r ry8 caz my other rail seems to be just fine...
So wut if i increase load on 3.3 or 5v rail ..dat will help the 12 V???
im thinkin of wut kind of load i should put ....4 da sake of curiousity...

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial DISCUSSION
Just changed my Primary caps to nippon chemicon...
then the rest of the caps.....
The 12 rail voltages looks like more stable...
but the 12V rail goes down to 11.78(avg)@LOAD (11.77 lowest)
and sits around 11.88 @ idle.
Although its well within + -5% range
I want to know if its possible to keep it @ 12 or 12+....
(hope im not asking too much)
thnx.
n BTW thnx for the primary cap change idea.....

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial DISCUSSION
So. here is the whole thing:
current: ----------------------------replacement cap
2x 2200uf 10v we 06201 ------------2x2200uf 10V nichicon VZ(m) H9427
3x 1000uf 10v we 6301 --------------3x 1000uf 16v Rubycon ZL T0645 PET
(these r the best i can get 4m my location. )
if im better of with my stock caps please suggest me so. thnxLast edited by minitt; 01-12-2009, 07:16 AM.

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial DISCUSSION
looks like my primary (Big ones) caps are 4m CS as welll.
SO ill recap my secodary caps as follows:
The 1000uf 10v WE series in a 10x20mm rated at .080Ω impedance and 620ma ripple
will be replced with Nichicon PW series 1000uf 10v in a 10x16mm can rated at .068Ω
impedance and 1050ma ripple.
And the primary (680uf 200V) should be replaced with..??????? c da pix.
Btw can ne1 Spot which capacitors are respnsible for 12 V filtering.......Last edited by minitt; 01-11-2009, 08:22 PM.

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial DISCUSSION
i have changed 2 caps 1 week ago. 1 electrolytic and 1 ceramic
electrolytic cap has a logo like $ which is replaced by a same capacitance but with 16V rather than 10v.
all the brown color caps in the PSU has the same "$" mark on them
but theere r black colored caps as well.
c the attached pix....
