  • Re: Gateway Model LP1925 2 seconds to black image is visible with a flashlight

    Fate it seems is a cruel mistress.....I will post a picture later....after final cleaning and reassembly had a few small issues that were not right had to go back into the monitor. it was upon reassembly number 5,985 or 5,986 that my head way hit a brick wall. I grabbed my mini tweasers to hold the ribbon cable to insert it back into the connection on the board on the base of the monitor and the darn clip/connector on the board itself came undone...with almost no pressure just tink...and it was inside...

    just thought I would update a few things here had to take the monitor back apart...not because of electrical issues but because...fumble fingers me did not make sure to keep finger prints off the back of the screen and the light deflector peaces.....sigh so all apart again to clean and go back together. soo just a side note gloves are a godsend for reassembly and probably wouldnt hurt for dis assembly....lol oh well live and learn

    Well after a few hours and some more work like I said I had noticed one bulb flickered when touched. So I went with the assumption that something could be wrong in that area. checked to connections they came apart. There was not enough wire to re solder the connection. Soo i opted to chance it by cutting out a section of the wire and replacing it. After some more testing and adjusting the brightness and setting themes differently it would not shut down. However this is were I ran into my next quandary....

    The picture is a little misleading sorry. that was the only picture i remembered to take. Two of the bulbs were hooked up from the monitor but i did not like how i was having to pull the wires like that. So i took the monitor all the way down and removed the bulbs .
    I hooked one test bulb to the top set of bulb connectors ...and one test bulb to the bottom bulb connector. since i did not think it would matter 100% which connectors they were plugged into. Then used the two remaining plugs to test...

    Ok I have the system set up. Have been testing this is what I have found so far.

    I marked one light so I could distinguish the two sets. For simpler purposes here is a basic idea of what i had
    #1= Red+white wire set = lamp one
    #2= Blue+Black wire set = lamp one

    #3= Red+white wire set = lamp two
    #4= Blue Black Wire set= lamp two

    Test sequence ran

    1=4-appeared stable-did not shut down

    2=4-appeared stable-did...

    I hope that is not as interesting as it sounds. Sounds like I need a road map of the circuit board. Oh well this is the fun part learning what i dont know.....I shall cross that bridge when I get there. Budm I thank you for info. So far all of this has taught me two things one...my soldering skills need improvement and as I always find I need more tools....if its a car or no matter what always a tool that makes the job go easier. lol

    well guess I know what I am building tomorrow lol. I had one other question the pictures I posted of the board if a I am looking at this correctly is the inverter board on this set up also part of the power board... and if that is the case if the inverter board is the problem will I be looking at replacing the whole board or can I install one of these universal boards I have seen is there a way to patch that in with what is already there.

    only made the one should I have made 2? K I was following the bulb design you had linked. I am on hold at the moment on this project. Had to order new power cables for the monitor. The previous owner never gave them to me only have the one on my personal monitor atm. So on hold probably till some time next week. Will post follow up information as soon as I have it. Thank you for you help!

    Ok, today's project went well....I did what you described and made the test bulb. I got 13 watt bulb, but i was concerned with how brittle the filament wire in the bulb was so after I soldered the connections i wrapped the bottom of the bulb with super 33 3m electrical tape. to help keep the wires safe and hopefully reduce movement as I might opt to use the bulb again in the future i hope. i used 22gauge solid wire for my leads. And I can also tell you that a razor blade cut through the bulbs outer shell...

    budm......correct me if I am wrong but if I read you information so long as it is 14 watt or smaller it should be fine as long as it is a cfl bulb correct. if that is the case then this should not be too difficult to organize. and just to confirm if I understand what you are saying I should solder the connections to the reverse the actual connection points were the plug for each cfl is on the board...sounds easy enough...now to grab my hammer and get to whacking so to speak....thank you for the help....will...

    Yes, the theme button does alter brightness etc. I think they are like presets for colors/brightness/etc as far the bulbs I do have a working monitor that i think has the same plug style bulbs it is a 19 in as well, but it is not a wide screen. Was debating about taking it down since it works using its bulbs hooked into the power system of the montior in question and see if the bulbs shut down. (would that work or would that be possibly damaging to the good bulbs) I just havnt had a chance today...been...

    Hello, I have the same board monitor as the original poster on this topic. I have been reading over the information. While mine is having the similar issue it does not 2 second to black.

    Some times actually a majority of times the monitor comes on and seems to function fine and will run for hours. It may randomly shut to black and with a flash light i can see screen. Power indicator light is still on. I have disassembled the unit inspected the caps visually and all appear ok. I am aware...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Greetings and Salutations! My name is Dudley I am a manager for a Auto parts store. So naturally I do allot of work on cars, boats, and all kind of other things. I have had what I would call a need to do kinda attitude towards most electronic repairs. While I do not always understand 100% of what I am doing I find if I do enough research and take the time I can often times muddle through. My first computer for me growing up was a tandy 1000 ...or was it a Texas instruments.....sigh too young to be 100%. I tinker with assembling...
