  • Re: Samsung FP-T5084

I missed a couple fuses that were hiding on the power board. Have good fuses everywhere and now get power, but it's just to the point of exhibiting the behavior my brother saw, where it sounds like it's trying to turn on 3 or 4 times, and then gives up. The Power LED stays lit for a few seconds, then turns off for 4 seconds, then back on, and repeats.

I'm guessing it probably is the power board and that the cap on the Y-sustain hadn't completely gone yet, but it was definitely worth replacing it now before it did go.

    I suppose I'll...

So I bought a refurbished Y-sustain board (because I'm lazy, and I hate soldering), which turned out to be an AA1 rev instead of an AA2 rev. The PCB rev is the same, though. The only difference I can see is those gold things on top of the heatsinks are not on the board I received. I'm guessing they just ground the rear cover to the board. All the components are no different, though.

Anyway, I got it installed, put a couple fuses in the power supply board, and buttoned it all back up.

However, upon plugging it in, I get no light up...

He said he didn't check whether they were good or not, but replacing them with new ones changed nothing in the symptoms the TV was displaying.

What he said it would do is click like it was turning on, but would just fail to turn on, and it would keep trying that on its own a few times, then stop.

I'll have to ask him if either of the fuses were bad this last time or not. The one holder (top) looks to be broken, but only on the plastic part, the metal holder is still intact.

    Samsung FP-T5084

    Hey guys,

I just came into possession of an FP-T5084 plasma from my brother. It would no longer turn on, he tried replacing the fuses again (had a power issue first under warranty shortly after he bought it new, which Samsung fixed, then a second time just out of warranty, which fuses fixed, this time, no dice), but this didn't solve the issue. He ended up purchasing a new 51" Samsung plasma and offered this one to me for free, and mentioned that it was probably the power board, which is about $80 on eBay.

Anyway, I pulled the back cover off, and noticed a couple...

No, that picture is with the lower buffer in there.

So what would removing the buffer prove. If the purple at the bottom is still there, then it's a panel short?

Cause it wouldn't make sense that it's the larger board that drives the two Y buffers, right? What about the long board along the bottom?

What's weird is that it did work for about 30 minutes back when I first brought the TV over...that's what throws me...

    All right,

So the correct revision buffer board didn't fix it either. What's next on the list of potential causes?

Also, I took a picture of what it looks like when it's on (picture quality sucks, but you can see the issue just fine).

    Thoughts?...

That's actually what I did before. Maybe they switched to the newer revision later in the model's production run. I found one that I believe is the correct rev this time. Just have to double check when I get home and then I can go ahead and purchase that.

Thanks. I'll post what the results are once I've gotten ahold of a new board and installed it.

So my first test would be to get another board, but of the correct revision this time, and try that?

That would make sense. That would also mean that it was listed incorrectly on eBay (Rev was not listed, but the TV's model number was, which was the same as what I have).

So it's possible, that if I got the previous rev, it may work?

  • Philips 50" Plasma bottom half of screen is black

I acquired a 50" Philips plasma, model number 50PF9630A/37 a couple months back. Short background on it: my fiance's sister is a manager at an apartment complex near her college. When people move out and leave items, they raffle it off. They "tested" the TV and confirmed it worked, raffled it off and she won. Being a 135lb behemoth made in 2005, she had no use for it, so she let me take it.

After moving the monster inside, I plugged it in to power and to cable, to test it out. Worked great.

A few days later, I went ahead and moved it to my old fraternity...

  • Re: A guide to fixing/troubleshooting some common plasma TV problems

This is an excellent thread, lots of good information. I looked through the beginning portion to see if I could find the same issue I'm having with a 50" Phillips plasma I acquired, but it doesn't appear so. I'm in the process of posting a new thread related to that now.
