  • Re: Basic 12v to 8v drop

I've been using your suggestion for about a month now and although it does work well for powering it. Thank you.

Though there is now a fair bit of crackle and static on the phone line. This is probably from the 12v UPS (doubt it has any conditioning), but I'm not sure how to get rid of it.

In theory, I could use a relay to provide mains power until there's a power outage and switch over, but I'd rather just remove the noise all together if possible.
    Any ideas?

  • External Antenna for Edimax BR-6258n

I'd like to add a RP-SMA socket onto this nano-router, but I'm having trouble identifying any antenna contacts. My best guess is that it's the pad next to the four serial contacts, but I'm not sure nor do I really know how to check (vmm and then touch a wire to see signal change?).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....

I knew that I could count on you all. Thank you for the very quick reply. And although I wouldn't mind trying my hand (probably a few times), the pre-made one looks like a winner to get me onto the next project.

Though this one looks to be US based with quick shipping. Fewer reviews, but the only difference that I can spot is a little smaller text on the caps.

  • Basic 12v to 8v drop

I have a 12vdc backup battery that I'm trying to use to backup an 8vdc phone system (300mAh). So no vehicle startup involved.

This almost seems too simple to ask, but I'd like to get it right the first time and I only dabble in this stuff with the help of those that know more than I.
    Thanks.

Ah, thanks for the explanation, and the fuse seems to be good still at least according to my cheap multimeter.

Although I could swap board with another one, I would rather not if possible since people are using them during work. And I did clean/check the signal cable going to the panel.

I believe that here's the pics (though I still don't know what a tcon is )...

Sorry, profile updated (US & 120VAC 60Hz), contacts have been cleaned, and you are correct in your assumption. DVI, VGA (different sources), or just system menu all have the same result.

  • Re: Another Dell 2007FPb problem

Didn't see a factory reset, but the brightness/contrast settings were on 50 out of 100 and they did act as they were suppose to, but they didn't help with the problem at all.

Got another bad monitor in the office. Though this one is just over a year old. The positive side is that this is the only one of these out of the 6 from that purchase.

I think that the pictures can explain the issue better than I can with the first being the lcd in question and the second being what it is suppose to show.

And as always, I really appreciate any help that you all offer. Thanks....

  • Re: Another Dell 2007FPb problem

Cleaned all the ribbon connections and checked all of them, applying signal had the same result, and contrast/brightness settings were fine.

Anything else I should try? Where would this sort of problem originate?

  • Another Dell 2007FPb problem

    Display: Dell 2007FPb
The issue is that the screen has a white filter across it and I can't see anything visibly wrong with any of the boards. I'm hoping that it is the inverter board and not the lcd itself, which is what I'd appreciate some expertise on.

If it is an easy fix, then I'd be happy to swap some components, but if it is much more, then I'll probably end up buying replacement boards. After all, these are at my work and time is a factor.

Thanks for posting these. I had taken one of these apart months ago and somehow lost all of my breakdown photos. These certainly came in helpful.

  • Re: Samsung SyncMaster 914v

I don't know what the odds are, but I'm about 85-90% certain that it's the transformer. At that point, I gave up and got a $14 board from ebay. Works like a charm, but without the satisfaction.

    Thanks for the help though.

Thanks. I had a feeling you might be refering to them, but I really wasn't positive. Although the plan is to desolder them to get a better look, any idea what sort of specs they typically are?

EDIT: It looks like they might be Schottky SR506's. At least according to [URL="http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://forum.allinbox.com/aspectgeek/AutresElectronique/reparation-empirique-reussie-sujet_8637_3.htm&ei=S4GAToqmN7PJ0AGyjYEg&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDAQ7gEwAg&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dd106%2Band%2Bd107%2Bon%2Bip-35135a%26hl%3Den%26prmd%3Dimvns"]Allinbox.com[/URL]....

Hmm, rectifiers brings up a few different images. Some look like diodes and some look like voltage regulators. Both of which are in the area that produces the sound. If you don't mind, could you mark it on this picture please?

    Thank you

  • Samsung SyncMaster 914v

Next up is a SyncMaster 914v that has something going on with the inverter board. At first I thought it would be a quick cap replacement once I saw a few bulging a little, but even after that, I still have an increasing buzz power-up until it discharges, powering everything down until the cycle picks back up again.

I'm not able to get pictures today, but will update later. I was just curious if there were any usual suspects in cases like this.

    As always, thanks.

Wow, I'm always amazed at how short the edit time is here.

Well, either way, the actual model is dv1610us and the graphics chip is an intel GMA 900 (yikes, I didn't realize it was that low-my netbook can handle more )

I believe that it is a celeron M and I'll have to check on the graphics when I get home. Honestly, I didn't expect any replies this quickly. Thank you, I'm a little taken off guard by the fast replies.

And unfortunately I don't have a charged battery and it doesn't look like anything is broken, but as I said before, keep the questions coming and I'll double check once it's in my hands....

  • Re: Issue with Westinghouse 19" LCD Monitor (large pics)

Okay now, I swapped the caps a little while ago and I guess I just got caught up in using it and forgot to post. Thank you again for your help.

As far as the 12.5mm vs 10mm, you were right and it wasn't a problem. I just had the leave a little more of the leads on there and bent them out of the way.

Also, I found that a three slot letter holder makes a perfect small motherboard holder while soldering. Though I'd make sure that the weight of the board is placed on something sturdy like the...
