• MegMeet MP116 replacement/upgrade!!!

I like others have been having problems with my MegMeet MP116 psu.

After fixing it once and now it has died again, I noticed another bad cap. However after replacing that cap it still does not work. I checked the fuse with a multimeter and it was still intact but when I check any pin on the other end I have nothing working.

So without a great knowledge on what to check or what it should "read" when checking I looked for just a replacement MP116. Any one I found was either used on ebay or sold out. Then I found a site http://www.shopjimmy.com/element-mp738-power-supply-unit.htm...

  • Re: Sceptre32 MegMeet mp116 Solved

Hey all... this is my second time needing to fix my sceptre TV. I do have a question... at the bottom of this post.

Here is a link to my thread from the first failure... that fix worked a good 2 years. I had 2 bulging caps and I decided to replace 4 in the row the 2 were in.

    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33144

That time around I did not see any other failing caps.

This time I have a different problem. I have no stand by light(red) or power on light(blue), it...

I hope that someone who has a sceptre TV like mine is able to fix it if it fails like mine did. I hope they do a search and find my thread and use it as I used other threads I found on this forum.

It worked. What a sense of accomplishment! I drilled some holes in the plastic back to add some extra ways for the heat to escape and cool air to enter. I hope it holds up.

Not planning on replacing every single cap just the 4 in the line.

If the 4 doesn't fix it, then I'll replace every one, minus the big one.

My camera is acting up, I cant get a good picture, but here is another one. You can see the two that are bulging and the next two I'm going to replace just because I want to. I don't think they look bad but I think with them being by the heat sink they could be ready to fail too, being that they are crappy CapXon's.

Ok I will not add a fan, unless it has its own external power source. But I'm still going to add holes or something to allow the heat to escape better.Re: Sceptre 32"...

Another question... I see on the PSU "COLD" and "HOT"..... are they marking where the heat is and where it is cool, or does "HOT" mean always powered, like don't touch when plugged in?

I'll take a picture, maybe I'll just cut some slots or drill some holes in the area of the psu instead of the fan.

Even though there are two slots for the 12v pin (one empty) and two for the 5v (one empty) I cant add a computer fan to these? I did notice that there is a space on the main board for 2.1 center channel amp, even though the parts are not soldered in, wouldn't this mean the psu may have extra power for this option on the board?

I don't really want to but maybe I could find a TV like mine with the 2.1 center channel...

    Re: Sceptre 32"

Oh yea, the old capacitors that I will be replacing are CapXon, from what I read on this forum they are crap.

Should I go and replace every single capacitor on this power supply? I only see two that have the bulge, the other two next to them I'm just assuming.

This will save me a bunch of money in replacement if this works. And I feel the modifications in cooling will help to make it last if it is a flawed design.

    started a topic Sceptre 32"

    Sceptre 32"

Please note my knowledge is limited, so don't assume I know what your abbreviations mean, dumb down explanations. I don't have anything other than a basic voltmeter, and I did some research on this forum but am no expert.

    My TV is a Sceptre 32" 720p, X320BV-HD. The psu is a Megmeet MP116 RVE:1.4.

My TV powers up (blue power light)to the startup screen and then clicks off, when it does so the standby light is lit(red). After it shuts off a few moments later I hear another click... almost like a reset or maybe a second power down?

    I found...

I too have a sceptre 32" tv that is not working. I'm unable to start a new thread yet so I'll just hang here for a few post's.
My TV is X320BV-HD. The psu is also a Megmeet MP116 RVE:1.4 which makes me believe that my psu is a newer version than the one picture you posted, looks like yours is a 1.0.

My TV powers up (blue light)to the startup screen and then clicks off, but when it does so the standby light is lit(red) unlike yours. After it shuts off a few moments later I hear another click... almost like a reset?...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi all. Paul here, novice when it comes to understanding the lingo and what every electronic part does, but I'm learning as things fail I fix them. This begins my quest for knowledge and understanding on what I'm going to fix and what it does. I've learned to fix my own truck, car, van and now that they are running good, I have to now fix my cheap TV. I think it is the CAP's that have let me down after inspection.... I will hopefully soon post my full question/problem, and follow up with what I did to fix it. My first computer...
