  • Re: Panasonic SU and SD resistance testing

I first double checked the procedure, making sure I was setting
everything up properly prior to the test. Switched leads and
tried a different meter. I still get the same result. Its acting as though
something has opened up on the boards. There are several diodes on both
    boards, they checked ok....

  • Panasonic SU and SD resistance testing

    Have a Panasonic TC-P42S1.
The SC board is definitely bad, I found several shorted components.
I purchased another SC board, but I was unsure about the SD and SU boards.
I didn't want to damage the new SC board. I noticed there is a resistance
test for them in what they call the revised 2009 trouble shooting handbook.

The SU procedure calls for unplugging SU41 and SU11, plus removing the
floating ground screws. They then say to measure the resistance between
the VF ground and pin 2 on the SU41 connector. The normal resistance they
    claim...

  • Re: tc-p50S2 10 blink SC troubleshooting

    Yes

None of them are shorted, but not really a guarantee they are good.

I am assuming you are talking in respect to the circuit ground. If so
the yes I did. The resistance measured up into the kilo-ohms, on both
the 5 and 15 volt lines....

    I wouldn't either,
That's why I checked all other components such as transistors, diodes resistors, ect.
Also checked the FET output pins of the M81707FP ICs for shorts. The SD and SU boards
can be had pretty cheap, and might change them for good measure....

    Thanks for the reply,
I asked because I am currently working with a TNPA4844AD SC board
with the following shorted components. 2PG011, RJP4585, RJP6065.
These are obsolete numbers, and I cant seem to find anything to sub these IGBTs.
The sticking point is the current spec. The 2PG011 for example, has a continuous current rating
of 40 amps, (not too much problem there), BUT at the same time it has a
pulse current rating into the 200 amp range. The highest I could find was
    about 160....

I've looked at UTSOURCE a few times but am concerned about quality.
You seem to have experience with them, have you ever had any trouble
in that department? Also (generally) how long does it take them to ship
    an order? Thanks....

  • Re: Bestec ATX-300-12Z REV.EHR

    Hello,
I have an Emachine with a Bestec 20 pin supply that giving me
problems and would like to try testing this computer with
a supply out of another machine. However there is a
slight difference. The Bestec supply has a pink wire connected
to the red wire on pin 11 and there is no wire on pin 13.
But the supply in the other machine has no pink wire and
does have a white wire connected to pin 13. Can this supply
still be used in the Emachine?

    Thanks

It probably would have been fine to use my DMM for the comparison resistance checks, I did it mostly out of personal preference and to get a second opinion....

I checked all over the place for service info for
that set and came up empty. So there really wasn't much choice
but to get a new supply. It also didn't help that I was misled
into believing that one of the diodes was good. Thats what
was killing the 5 volt standby to begin with. Normally there's no problem
testing diodes in circuit buy simply using the diode test on
my DMM. However the amount of leakage on this one was
small enough to throw the reading off, giving it the appearance...

  • Re: Spectroniq PLTV-3250 wont start

    Update:

Ok the new supply came in, I connected it to the monitor
and all works fine. However I still wanted to repair the old one.
So I took both supplies to the bench and connected a source to them
in order to do some comparison testing to find out why I wasn't getting
the 5 volt standby voltage. I check for voltage on the new supply
in the area where I had to replace a surface mount transistor (Q7) on the
old supply, it measured just under 15 volts. I checked the same areas
    on...

I'll call it resolved when I actually see the monitor running properly.

    You bet

They are standard issue. I found a shorted transistor in very close
proximity of one of them. It may have damaged the IC.

Not really sure, I think it may be controlled by the adjacent IC.
There's where a schematic would have been useful.

I checked all other transistors, diodes, and resistors and all checked
    ok. I suppose...

I ordered one directly from their website rather than Ebay which
saved me a few bucks on the shipping.

About the only thing that would keep this unit from getting
repaired is maybe the inductors. They are most likely custom
made and cannot be ordered as a replacement.

The only reason I am replacing it is because of the time element.
I will repair it and then use it is as a test supply.

    That's certainly nothing...

    Yes

    Yep,
I simply use the same high level of caution that I use when working around
the 4000 volt high voltage section of Microwave ovens....

A jumper from ground to which terminal?
Are you talking about connecting the resistor across the
    5 volt line itself?...

  • Re: Spectroniq PLTV-3250 wont start

    Thanks for the reply,
I'm not getting DC voltage at the 5, the 16 or the 24 volt outputs.
I'm suspecting that maybe there is still some wrong in the supply, but
I am not sure. I have seen articles on how to start a computer supply manually
without it being installed in the system. It involved jumping two
of the terminals together to start it, and also having some sort of load
connected to it. This supply is very similar so I thought that this one could be rigged in a similar fashioned to start it on the...

  • Spectroniq PLTV-3250 wont start

    Hello,
I'm working with a Spectroniq model PLTV-3250 LCD monitor.
It uses an FSP194-3F01 power supply.
The monitor won't start, there appears to be a standby led on
the front but its not lit. In the supply I am getting DC voltage at one of the
leads (about 160V) of all of the heat sinked transistors except
one, so the supply is live, but it wont start. I found some caps
that were swollen at the top, so I replaced them along with some other
smaller ones just for good measure. Also I replaced a shorted surface
    mount transistor. Then...
