Re: Laptop mouse suggestions
Logitech Performance MX.
It has a laser that works on glass, something that is very nice to have when traveling a lot and staying in hotels. A lot of hotels seem to like having fancy glass topped desks, which is great to look at but not much use to me when I need a reliable surface to track on with my mouse! The MX fits my hand very well, plenty of functionality and the battery lasts a good time too.
The USB dongle works very well and can be used with other logitech wireless products meaning you only use up one USB port if you...

Can anyone give light onto good Ceramic caps? What brands should I go for and what rating for motherboards/gpus?

Re: GTX580m Laptop Graphics card SMD capacitor blown/shorted
I've done some more research and found this sizing guide for Surface mounted components and believe I'm looking for an SMT603 or SMT 805 capacitor. The caps above are just under 2mm in length.
Not sure if this helps anyone identify the caps I need, but thought it may be relevant.

GTX580m Laptop Graphics card SMD capacitor blown/shorted
Hi there, I'm looking for some assistance for the repair of my GTX580M graphics card as fitted to my Alienware m17x R3. I believe this card is fairly notorious for failure after 1-2yrs and When you see the pics you will see why... The laptop does boot into windows with no corruption but the screen blanks after a minute or two.
It appears an SMD cap has failed/shorted at the C516 location. I've tried looking for a schematic online with no success, so wondering how best to go about fixing it?

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hey everyone. I'm a pc gamer and have replaced caps before on a couple of monitors and have reflowed the solder on a 8800GTS video card in my domestic oven and fixed the dashpod unit on my car despite being a complete novice in electronics or pcb repair! I'll have a go at most things if I think there's a slim chance of success as I dislike the modern habit of discarding faulty items vs repair.
My view is that I'm likely to bin it and have to replace the item if I cant fix it, so what do I have to loose?! So anyway,...
