  • Re: Westinghouse LD-5580Z No power

Here is a picture of the unit opened up, and a close up of the board. There are a few smaller boards across the top, but I can't identify them and they are under plastic I didn't want to disturb. I am at the office again for the day followed by school, but will try and look for the touch wires after I get home and see if that helps....

Possible, but before I opened the tv all the way I was testing the ribbons. With both ribbons disconnected at the board end, I got the tv to power up with the red led indicator on. Then with the right side connected, it powered up again and I could see the logo and it went to tuner. Now, after taping the rail where the other end connected and reassembling, I can't get a power indicator even with both disconnected from the board. Is it possible I just didn't put something back right. The only iffy thing I noticed when reassembling were these plastic...

Edit: both sentences should be "left side", but I've tried all combinations of connected/not and no signs of life.

OK so I may have screwed something up... I had power with just the right side disconnected, opened up the TV down to the shell and carefully taped around the aluminum where the ribbon was touching, reassembled, and now nothing. Doh! I had power before with either both or just the left side ribbon disconnected from the board and now no combination gives me anything. No light, no logo. Power supply is still reading 19v output. Maybe I reassembled something wrong?

Ribbon cable to led was it. I disconnected both and powered on and got the red led indicator, then connected right side only and got picture. Now to figure out how to get the other end out for replacement. It seems to be sandwiched between the screen and chassis and I'm a little nervous to try and desperate them...

Not home yet to do any tests/pictures, but yes it did appear to be only one board when i opened it up last night to start exploring. I did not find any fuses that seem apparent. It is an external power supply, which I metered at 19v good as a first step. Figures it wouldn't be that easy.

  • Westinghouse LD-5580Z No power

    Hi everyone,

This is my first attempt at fixing a t.v., so bear with me. I have a 55" Westinghouse LED t.v. I got from my in-laws, and this thing is totally dead. I was told this started after an electrical storm one day. T.v. worked find beforehand, then absolutely nothing afterwards. No power, no lights on, no noises, nothing. Never having worked on a t.v. (repaired an xbox a few times and built my own pc, so I'm not totally useless) I don't have any sort of diagnostic routine to inspect it. I did go through what I know and checked the power supply itself with a multimeter,...
