That might be even better. Flux indeed does not conduct well.

Re: Troubleshoot a Dell 2209wa (will not stay on after flickering)
As I said, the resistance of the rubber is relatively high. This is not a problem because there is a high voltage but low current. Consequently there is a low voltage drop across the junction of lamp an rubber. That is to say that you do no need to use a very low resistance material.
Still silver is certainly the best conductor, followed by copper. Gold does oxidize the least. Just use copper coated with silver or tin. You can wrap the tube's wire with that other wire (should be thin). If it...

Re: Troubleshoot a Dell 2209wa (will not stay on after flickering)
Sorry for not paying attention.
I used some solder wick: http://www.hobby-bastelecke.de/bilder/basteltips/entloetlitze1.jpg
I cut a small piece (like 1cm) and folded it so that it formed a "V". I placed that piece of solder wick on the rubber part with the point of the V facing towards the cutout from above.
Then I took the tube and pressed its wire inside the piece of solder wick until both the wire and the piece of solder wick were hidden inside the rubber...

I remove dust just by blowing strongly or with some cloth that is lint-free. If you don't see black spots it is not a problem.Last edited by elagil; 11-06-2014, 01:47 AM.

Actually the tubes are more robust than they seemI used some plastic spudger like this one:

but it should not matter much what you use. Just do not use something hard like metal. Until you remove the tube, you will not see the wire. It sticks out of the tube at the end.Re: Troubleshoot a Dell 2209wa (will...seem ;) I used

Re: Troubleshoot a Dell 2209wa (will not stay on after flickering)
Very nice! Just lift out the tube that is affected (lift close to the rubber socket for the least stress) and clean the connector with a cloth and some alcohol or something similar (I used acetone). You can (and should) also lift out the rubber pieces and clean them with water or something that does not harm the material.
I advise you to lift out all of the tubes and briefly check the wire that comes out. If one is already charred, it might cause the monitor to fail again.

Re: Troubleshoot a Dell 2209wa (will not stay on after flickering)
Disassembly is not too difficult but you should be careful when handling the tubes. They break easily when you apply too much stress.´
I guess the monitor looks similar to the 2410u inside. Have a look here:

That is what the tubes inside might look like.
In order to reach them follow these steps (holds for u2410..):
1.) Take inverter board off (which you might have done already)...

Re: Broken Dell Ultrasharp U2410
I also ended up wrapping one end of the tube in copper wire to widen it a little. That made perfect contact.

Re: Dell U2711 2 seconds to black
Turns out it was AGAIN an arching tube. It was charred on one end! Seems to be quite a common issue with these dell monitors that have those rubber clips to hold the tubes..
Now it runs perfectly fine again.

Re: Dell U2711 2 seconds to black
The voltage that goes to the inverter is 24.10V when no lights are on and drops very slightly to 24.05V for those two seconds. Might that be a broken tube or something? I do have a spare tube of a U2410 around here.

Those pictures seem to have been compressed quite a bit. Follow this link for full resolution images (watch out, they are huge..): http://coda.pw/dellRe: Dell U2711 2 seconds to black<br....pw/dell

Re: Dell U2711 2 seconds to black
No this is actually another monitor! The other one was a u2410.
Here are some pictures of the power supply and inverter boards. I could not spot anything unnormal on the boards....

Dell U2711 2 seconds to black
Hello,
I have the above monitor which turns off its backlight 2 seconds after powering on. The screen still holds all the content, only the backlight is off.
Now before that (even today) the monitor had the problem to turn its backlight off after around 30 minutes. Before switching off entirely the backlight changed brightness (like once a second).
When switching off and back on the monitor would stay on for a while before repeatedly showing the behaviour described above.
Now I changed the five main caps (low esr, but no name brand) on...

Re: Dell 2709W random colored lines/stuff
Still trying things with this monitor...
I heated up the main board near the BGA-package, especially those CAPS and the image on the monitor changed considerably. Colors went completely towards green/blue, away from red. I even had some regions that went black and which showed the image of the "no signal" thing when it passed by. What can I conclude from that? Could it be worth replacing some of the caps?
I will soon attach pictures of the board but the caps still look decent.

Re: Dell 2709W random colored lines/stuff
Any idea what I could try next? I do have some equipment for testing (analog scope and multimeter) but I guess that will not help much.

Re: Dell 2709W random colored lines/stuff
I now had the time to do some tests.
There is a board to which the panel is connected via two flat flex cables (T-Con-board?). I disconnected one of them and took some pictures of the monitor when powered on.
What I can see is, that half of the panel (the one which is not connected) is light grey while the other half shows a static striped image. That image changes with powering the monitor off and on again but not while powered on. I conclude that the panel is not broken but something that handles the signal....Last edited by elagil; 03-02-2014, 10:11 AM.

Dell 2709W random colored lines/stuff
Hello,
I am trying to repair a Dell U2709W which once switched off with a buzzing sound and did not switch on again. When opening it up, I noticed a blown 250V/4A fuse on the power supply which I replaced.
Now the monitor switches on, backlight works perfectly, button presses are registered but I see strange colored bars (vertical) which change color, flicker in high frequencies and such things though no input is connected.
When I press a menu button I do see a menu on the screen behind the lines but it is barely readable.
What could it be? I...
